View Full Version : Constitutional Amendment - CW required.

If CW is so good at making a good Ham, why would it not be equally good for anything else.
I propose a constitutional amendment that all persons running for an elected office must pass CW proficiency testing before they can be on the ballot.
Local officials = 5 wpm
State officials = 15 wpm
Federal officials = 20 wpm
Since the CW is sooooooooooo good, would this not solve all our problems in government? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I'd rather see an obligatory IQ test.
>70 for local officials
>75 for county officials
>80 for state officials
>90 for Senate and Congressional officials
Mandatory criminal and mental illness screening for all of them.
Sadly, this demonstrates all too well the lack of understanding of what the constitutional amendment process is all about. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

No "CW" proficiency test required. However, I might go along with a test on the International Morse Code.
CW ≠ Morse Code

I started picturing all these guys in cowboy hats and started thinking......BUSH CLONES!
Thats the LAST thing we need is CW...err, more C&W requirements, eh?
<---- Please, God, make it stop.
Well....Morse code IS a reasonably simple and pretty universally useable "language".....Has only about 50 "words" to learn.
And you can use it to signal and communicate with other persons who also know it by means of literally ANYTHING you can turn on and off....not necessarily a radio signal....car horns, steam whistles, finger pressure, lights, flags, and such as that.
The heck with making it part of a radio license exam...
I think some degree of proficiency in International Morse Code should be a prerequisite for graduating from High School, whether later use of it is intended or not.....
Sort of like "reading, "Writing", "arithmetic"...and other Stuff that people aren't learning in high school now.
It would be good if many people knew how to communicate with it as a comfortable communications tool, instead of only a few.

Actually I would like to see a member of congress/president that just had a brain. So far none of the goons I see there look like they could get around a race track with a map!

Yup and an average of 40 for the armchair curmudgeon experts who do nothing but bitch on Zed and haven't done anything helpful for others for decades.

Latin or Greek would be more useful.
Just because code fascinates you does not mean that 99.9% of the world's population cares one iota about it.

Got the perfect...
Better not comment further. Term limits, derogatorry statements about current politicians, National Security, all that...
But if actual Morse proficiency WERE required, political offices in Washington, D.C. would be lonely, indeed. (That is, if any of them even knew what Morse Code IS, much less how to use it.)

Well then, I know a few (sadly, very few) politicians that would have to do something crazy and patently illegal to qualify...

I think that's a great idea. If nothing else, it would show that they at least have some dedication to accomplish a simple task and the minimal intelligence necessary to memorize about 40 sounds.
NO WAIT, DID YOU SAY POLITICIANS???!!!
