I perused ebay but was a little leery about what I saw being offered and and started surfing on-line retailers and found a place called memorysupplier.com which had the best price for what I needed by a mile.

Yeah, I'm sure I've got a few old 30-pin SIMMs around here somewhere too. #Judging by the "creative" in the posted URL, I assume the OP is looking for sound card memory [which is nothing special, just exactly the same as standard motherboard memory].
Sound card memory is most likely to be used for loading onboard MIDI synth "sound fonts." #It won't even need to be particularly fast, but of course, 30-pin SIMMs never were "particularly fast" to begin with... #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Generally in the 50-70ns range.

It's sort of a "buy one, get ten free" type deal for old memory. Either it's real cheap, or you have to pay an arm and a leg from the manufscturer/distributer.
. I have several sets for 4-64 MB from old mobos; I think most are 60 nS. But apparently he's not interested.
I just hate taking stuff to the recycle dump if it's still good. Most places around here are offering PC-100 and PC-133 SD-RAM for 10¢ per MB. Last swap meet I got some 128 MB PC-100's for $1.00 each. (I was resurrecting a K6-2 box for shack use.)

Actually, I was looking to upgrade a 5-year old laptop from 512 MB to it's max of 1 GB, mostly to improve its speed, which really slowed down when I installed Norton Antivirus 2007. # #
The laptop cost $1300 in 2003 and you can get a new comparable one for around $800, hence I didn't want to spend any real money on it.
It needed a pair of outdated 512 MB memory sticks. #
The memory sticks from the original mfg (Dell) were $50 ea. + shipping and I neeed 2. #No way.
The major retailers like Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy either didn't have what I needed or wanted like $119/each (!!). #Other on-line retailers were the same. #I had my grave doubts about ebay.
The place I referred to in the original posting had what I needed for about $55 for the both during a time-limited sale they were having. #Postage included. #I'm getting:
KINGSTON 512MB PC2100 266MHZ 200 PIN
DDR SODIMM # # (X2)
I liked the fact they were Kingston rather than some no-name from ebay.

That memory isn't exactly "obsolete." Fry's and even the Office Supply houses have advertised the 512 MB/PC2100 laptop modules (SO-DIMM) in the last month or so. Lots of the "older" laptops still use it; prices seem to have been around $34 each after rebate.
Heck, I have an 18 month old Compaq that uses the same memory speed. First thing I did was kick it up to 1 GB from the original 256 MB. 256 is barelt enough to let XP crawl; 1 GB is "good enough" for a laptop.

"Circus City" had the memory advertised this past Sunday, but the price is higher than in the past.
Kingston PC2100 SO-DIMM, 1 GB @ $54.99, no rebate. (Actually, I believe Kingston says it will operate as either PC2700 or PC2100 depending upon the Bus speed of the system in which it's installed. Memory can usually run at slower bus speeds with no problem; it's when you try to overclock memory that you can run into all kinds of problems.)

I think most of those use system memory now. I had the Awe32, with I think 16 megs years ago. Kinda cool, you could load a burp.wav and use it as an instrument.
