I am having problems with certain tasks on my computer. I have tried to restore to a previous checkpoint, but no luck. Will it help or hurt anything if I re-install Windows Vista OP??

Thanks!!

It would help yes, but that is an awful extreme to go to. If you post more about the problem with the errors you are getting and what you were trying to do we may be able to help.

One thing I noticed is that when I click on my DVD burning software, it freezes up. Also, I can't access the utilities of my external hard drive anymore. It says that I am not connected to the internet and that the server execution failed; however, I am connected. These are just a couple that I have encountered.

When I first had Vista, I didn't have these problems. That's why I was thinking to re-install it.

The first thing I would suggest is to go to google chipset driver for your make and model. Reinstall it. If that doesn't work I would go the the MS site and run the vista compatability check on MS's site, or look in device manager for things with no driver. I forget the path but look for the device manager in the admin tool I thinks.

Here is the solution to yours, and anyone else's Vista issues. Dig out your old XP disk. Insert into CD and boot from it. Delete partition C and create a new one. Yes, all information will be lost--that's what you want. Choose to install XP in the new partition. Update as necessary. Vista horsecrap goes away, your computer runs faster and all the programs you presently have, and drivers are available for all your goodies.

Nah, just throw the whole computer out the window, don't even open
it, break the glass! If you break a leg in the process, don't tell
the doctor to put a cast on it to "Fix" it, instead have the entire
leg amputated and replaced with a prosthetic limb, it is lighter,
and some people can run faster with them. After that, throw
the bathwater out the window complete with the baby.

Since you said vista ran fine at first, it should continue to do so
ad-infinitum. No drivers should be missing as they were there
originally. To solve your problem with advice and retain
your current install would require an incredible learning
curve on your part to dig up the information needed
to fix it via forum post, so yeah, i would do a re-install.

A hardware problem could also be the issue, in which case no OS is going
to run right, you will find out if that is the case on your next
install. For future reference, system restore is your
best friend. two services you should never stop
are system restore and automatic updates. both require
little resources. one will prevent future problems,
the other will roll back current ones.

good luck. Steven - N1OHX
