I don't see any easy way out.

This is probably the single biggest thing that is threatening the next generation of Americans. No one has any suggestions as to what we should do?

Probably a real problem...but do have any other sources that aren't so irrititating or egotistical to explain it?

If you were socially conscious in the '70s, your response is "same song, second verse".

There's nothing new about the 'social security crisis'. It's been a boogie man as long as I can remember.

Yawn.

Yes, there has been plenty of warning and plenty of time to adjust course. Unfortunately, our destination now looms.

I am pretty soothing and humble, but I am installing a new dishwasher and cannot even figure out how to get it out of the chipping crate. Fixing the USA may require a more talented amateur economist. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

That, too, was said in the '70s.

They bailed their way out of the issue then with 'stagflation'.

which, of course, nobody planned.

they are pretty good at fending off the day of reckoning.

Good point. I think that when my fellow Ron Paul supporters are out of sight of my screen, that debauching the Dollar is necessary in order to pay the Dollar-denominated debts with less real wealth. Unfortunately, some of the programs are indexed to inflation.

I see a need for:

-- higher payroll or other taxes.
-- more immigration, preferably young people.
-- more borrowing to make up the deficits
-- a smaller Dollar.
-- less domestic and foreign spending.
-- downward adjustments in recipient checks.
-- more delayed qualifications for SS.

I hate these "solutions" BTW!

If you limit your scope to social security solvency, the simple solution is to raise the cap on the SS tax, which, alas, is not indexed to inflation.

I too hate the "solutions" that are likely.

How about using FICA money for social security instead of "borrowing" it for every program they can't find funding for? Borrowing from the Social Security Fund is like borrowing a cigarette - nobody ever gives it back.

Ah but as your post indicated there are solutions somebody could become a hero and those that would rather dump it letting many fend for themselves what will we call them... heroes? brave? hard working? or...
