View Full Version : Is McCain as scary as he looks?

I don't know much about the candidate except my general impression is that he says the FM's doing a good job (or not...don't really know).
There was a pretty scary and large pic of him in the LA Times today, I wish I could find it online. It was on the order of Shoutin' Dean in the last election. Well, guess he's better that rudy or nanny Mike.
I have never found a youtube video or even a transcript of his temper tantrum about North Korea. I saw it on TV, and it was pretty impressive. I think it was in the mid to late 90's when he did that. Watching it, I could only think how swell it would be to put a man like that in charge of the World's most powerful military. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
McCain is full of baloney, but not for the reason that most right wing types here talk about.
The right wingers talk about how McCain is a "liberal" and he's far from that. Outside of immigration and campaign finance reform he's about as much of a hard core right wing nutcase as they come. All you have to do is look at his voting record.
McCain has been able to con the media with his "straight talk" nonsense. Talking heads like Chris Matthews like the man personally so they never challenge him on his flip-flops and half-truths. His stance on Iraq and support for the "surge" (read escallatio-thanks Tom Lehrer) will kill him in the end. His more cozy relationship with the radical christian right speaks volumes too.
No thanks to McCain.

I heard an interview of him with Sean Hannity in 2004 he called Sean an idiot. Well he was right on that one but it sure makes him look like a hothead...

Heard a good comment about rudy this weak. The rabid dog talking about terrorism is like Nagin talking about the weather.

You can say what you want about McCain, but he spent over five years in the Hanoi Hilton. I doubt that there are many hams on this site that could have survived that ordeal. McCain has repeatedly stood up to the president on the topics of torture and budget-breaking tax cuts (he is not a “supply-sider”).

...for which he has America's eternal thanks. The scumbag Republican far right maligned McCain in South Carolina in 2000 even with his war record. Those people are reprehensible.
McCain is more palatable to me than any of the other Republicans running, but I can't ignore his overall voting record.
I will say this. He would have been a far better President than GW Bush, and despite his current pandering to the Republican base over the escalation in Iraq, I don't think as President, he would have gotten us into that fiasco.
I really have no idea how either nomination is going to go.

There are two things that scare me about McCain -
1. He insists that we could have won the Vietnam War if we hadn't lost our national will. This causes me to question what kind of commander he would be. Apparently, he thinks America is sufficiently powerful that we can just use our military to settle any conflict. I think that's extremely dangerous, and a continuation of the neocon strategy for world domination.
2. The reason I didn't vote for George Bush I is because he spent the last year of his term in office trying to please the religious right, to the detriment of everything else. McCain has been even more desperate in his pursuit of that group. I know you have to do these things to get elected, but please!
But, I still might vote for him over Hillary, and he's the only Republican I would consider.

McCain is probably an ok guy personally (a little nuts) but he is indeed far from conservative.
He is really marginal and moderate. Not someone I want in office.

Yes McCain has an evil side and then he has another evil side. To be perfectly frank he nothing more then a professional politician now...
No one disputes McCain's record as a prisoner of war and service to his country. #When he beds down with hard core LIBS like Fiengold, on campaign finance reform, i.e. regulating free speech, or the Cape Cod Orca, Kennedy, on Amesty, he's no friend of true conservatives.

But he voted to invade Iraq and has supported the administration every step of the way on that issue, long after most figured out it was a stupid idea in the first place.
I wouldn't vote for McCain if he were the only candidate. I'd write in a vote for my dog, who has enough sense to stay in his own yard and only bite those who have clearly demonstrated a threat.

His little ditty, "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" didn't go over so well.
I cannot picture McCain conducting international relations, which is one of the primary tasks of a President. I wouldn't trust his cabinet choices, either.

The McCain-Feingold bill was an attempt to remove soft-money from the election process. The statute failed because special interests on both sides of the political divide exploited Section 527 of the Internal Revenue Code to circumvent it.
I would support the removal of that statute if we amended the 14th amendment to strip "personhood" from corporations. IMHO, our founding fathers never intended for corporations to have the right to political free speech.

The M-F bill was unconstitutional. No where in the Constitution does the federal government get permission to regulate campaigns.

Haven't you folks read Sherlock Holmes?
This firearm was obviously developed to deal with the Giant Rat of Sumatra. At the time Watson thought the world was "not yet ready" to hear the story of the beast, but it looks like the Rat's days are numbered.
McCain is no conservative.
