View Full Version : Darwin Shoplifter
A man was observed steeling steaks in a local Piggly Wiggly supermarket which is within 100 yards of the chattaoochee river and the Georgia state line . A customer observed him hiding steaks in his pants and alerted the off duty copy who worked for the store. The
store employs local off duty police officers because it is near a welfare housing project and has a high rate of shoplifting. When the cop confronted the man as he was attempting to leave the store he broke into a run hoping to make it across the chattahoochee river
bridge which separates Alabama from Georgia. The cop was closing on him so about half way across the bridge the thief jumped in the river to escape. His body was pulled from the river two days later with the steaks still in his pants.

Very sad that a mans dies cause he steals food to live. Apparently he didn't own a gun, so no armed robbery, and all he seems to have stolen was food. I heard this someplace so it is just an approximation of the tale.
In ancient times in Israel it was not a crime to enter a farmers field and eat the food while in the field. If you took the food out of the field, hidden or openly, you were considered a thief and subject to punishment. Maybe we need to have such a rule here...

He was not pulled out because he went under and did not come up. He was not really a high priority with the police department as they assumed the river had solved the problem , and knew he would surface in a few days.

Any situation where a person looses their life over an unarmed and non-confrontational attempt to steal food to feed themselves or their family is bod sad and tragic.

The GPS incident puzzled me until I actually realized the car got stuck BECAUSE the guy followed the GPS and actually turned his car off the crossing and directly onto the train tracks. Now that is an example of a person who probably should not be driving at all. And it's apparently a foreign concept to you that everything in life is not black and white. The ability to recognize the loss of life as sad and tragic, even in the face of a nonviolent crime is not a liberal charachteristic. It's a human charachteristic that has shaped the thought processes of men and has shaped the thinking of the men who founded this very nation. It's the reason that we are a nation of freedom, that values rights, human dignity, and provides due process for all. It's too bad you never learned to appreciate that. You've missed out on a good part of our nation.
