Yesterday i worked Greece on 20m in SSB using my yaesu ft-817nd, outputpower 5W, antenna is a home made dipole, made from speakercables connected to a homemade tuner. Antenna was placed in my girlfriends backyard, horizontal polarized, 2m above the ground.

Station i worked: SV1JGX
distance, about 3000 KM.

Worked Russia ones, but don't know where i've put his QSL card:)

Most memorable 2-way QRP-QSO: ZL2TX on 17m.
One way QRP (and with simple wire antennas) I worked about 200 DXCC during the last sunspot cycle peak.

A few years ago however, I refrained from getting on people's nerves with a tiny signal and now only torture people who don't deserve better (i.e. other QRPers) with my QRP signals. A bit QRP now and then can be fun, but it's not all there is. Having used power levels (ERP) over a span of over 80dB, I had a good share of fun so far with all of them.

Talking about QRP, Fabian worked me QRP during the summer on 17M at his home station I believe. I occasionally do QRP. Farthest I have worked are VQ9JC on 17M and Swains Is. on 20M, both with 10W. Both were really loud and no pileups. Other QRP contacts are with the Caribbean and some EU. QRP is fun when bands are in good shape.

For now, HP is the way to go, especially on SSB!

One contact with 1Watt with Colin MU0FAL on 30M. That was fun.

Years ago worked a station is Japan on 10 meter CW running 1/2 watt. Of course the solar cycle was at or near peak and I was running a Heath HW9 into a Butternut vertical.

1/2 watt into a vertical, that's pretty good regardless of the sunspot cycle. Although I guess that would depend on how many radials you have http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

If I remember correctly at the time I had 4 radials per band I was active on. A lot of hams do not believe it when others who have been through a cycle peak that 10 meters can open up like that. During those years I had one of those Radioshack 10 meter mobiles, in fact I still have it for the cycle 24 peak. All I had for an antenna was a modified CB antenna and the rig put out 25 watts. I had a 30 minute commute to work at the time and every morning I easily worked and maintained long conversations with stations in Europe.

Ten meters can be one hot band when you get near the peak of the cycle. In fact now that we are on the upswing more hams should get on 10 meters and call CQ. If your looking to work stations for WAS or DXCC every December there is the ARRL 10 meter contest. This year I may go mobile and bring the laptop for logging.

Maybe if you wanted you could come up in the New Hampshire area around Nashua and I would love to tag along or you could operate from my station.

I got a card back from a QRP contact to Hawaii yesterday.

It was with 5w and 20m was great that day!
It was with KH7S

That's what happens a lot, I basically got my w.a.s by just getting cards and s.a.s.e's, it's a nice business, except I get to many cards from Rhode Island, 4 in the last week, it's getting worse then New York and Texas http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Only thing that keeps me going is the s.a.s.e's http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Probably cuba on 40M. 2W into a dipole. That was the best because I worked it on a radio I made myself. Have also worked Larry (VQ9JC) running 3W Sideband on 17M. Of course, probably any QRP ham who works DX has QSO'd Larry; he has awesome ears.

ZL2 from MD. 2x QRP. TT ARGO 509 (abt 2.5 W hr) , es he was homebrew at 1.5. Think that was on 15 or 20 when the band was dead. Also a UA0 on ssb (same rig hr) He was about S-2 but gave me a 5-9. Both with wire antennas, and nothing very fancy. UA0 had a very wattery sounding sig, so must have been Aurora.

Hmmm.... I'd say the most exciting was my first contact ever... I had no idea what I was doing haha.... A 1 watt CW kit and a borrowed receiver that i literally hand switched the LAN wire I was using as feed line to a radio shack long wire antenna... made a contact to the Adirondack's... I had been trying nearly every day after school for a week or two to make a contact... I think i was nearly to excited to key back! haha, I'm pretty sure that was my most memorable QRP contact ever!

VQ9JC, Larry, is not in the US. He's in the Chagos Islands (belonging to the UK, but a seperate DXCC entity), working at a joint USA–UK base. You should see the pictures of the station he has that he has on his QSL card (which is very nice) — they're amazing!

Almost every DXer I've met has Larry. He's on sporadically, usually on 17 CW but occasionaly on SSB (the mode in which I got him QRP, as a matter of fact) and very rarely on 80 or 15 — I got him on 15 during the CQ WW.

TI7/DH8WR with 5 watts on RTTY, I think (I have a card, too)...
I did make a 5 watt contact with a station in Brazil with 5 watts on RTTY...have to check the log for the call, though. My rig's power level won't go below 5 watts.

I did finish my 20m Rockmite awhile back...now I have to use it :)

about a week or so ago i worked a man in michigan from my home QTH here in maine, and i lvoed it! 5 watts CW is always fun with my 857D haha, i have built a pixie 2 and have made contacts with it as well, i have done many mods to it to help it tune the bands a little bit :) i would recommend that anybody in the hobby should build something to get the taste of what it was like back than, its rewarding to know that you can build a piece of equipment and know that you built it yourself!!!

His listing confused me, I have heard him of course, but no antenna for 17 meters yet :(. oh well.

3B7C with qrp was a great thing. I still almost can't believe it except for the qsl card
