1) Did you know that the "Capitol Records" building on Hollywood blvd has the red aviation beacon on top that blinks in morse code the word, "Hollywood"? #It's really really slow. #I think it's slower than 5wpm. #It's more like 1wpm. #But...it does broadcast the word: "HOLLYWOOD." #I wonder who and what year it was decided to have the beacon broadcast in code. #Obviously some ham and probably some 40-50 years ago the decision was made...

Moving on...

2) Last night I watched the movie "Death Hunt" with Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin. #There is a part in the movie where a young RCMP officer brings in a new "transiever." #Lee Marvin asks him, "what the heck is that?" #The guy explains that it's "new" and allows them to communicate etc.. etc... #(The movie era is circa 1931).

Later in the movie, the young RCMP actor is tuning the radio in the back ground and you clearly hear via the radio speaker, "CQ CQ...(unintelligable) etc... #

Another semi-old movie that showed some good ham practice! #I'm glad the producers/writers at least were fairly accurate in their depiction of proper ham operation(s) for the brief few seconds in the movie. #Sadly, Charles Bronson later murders the classic "antique" radio with a rifle. # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Did you know that if you leave your key in the ignition (in ACC or OFF) in any Honda/Acura vehicle, then open the door, that it will beep the letter "H" for Honda?

That's too funny!

My van (Chrysler) must think it's a Honda, too, because it also sounds four beeps at a time...

I thought the "H" stood for "HELP! You left the door open and the key in the lock!"

My wife ( a NCT) used Morse the other day when she saw a mouse in the kitchen.

One long 'T', audio frequency about 8000Htz.

Didn't know she was learning code...

This morning when I put the cat out the door in the cold, she turned to face me and hissed the letter "S" at me.
