So after the squelch circuit in my ADI AR-247 finally ticked me off enough, I dropped the $229 for an Alinco DR-235 MkIII for the car and I'll be putting my old ADI rig in the house.

I'm on 220 daily so if any radio in my car is going to suck, it can't be my 220 rig. Some things I instantly noticed about the DR-235...

1. The receiver is awesome.
2. The squelch circuit is great for mobile use.
3. I like the look of the radio a lot more.
4. The display actually works right without having to go inside the radio and reseat it properly (ask anyone who's owned an ADI AR-1/2/447 about the displays on those radios...)
5. The audio sounds great.

Overall, well worth the money spent. I own the Alinco DJ-296 HT (the DR-235's little brother I suppose) and have had no problems with it either. I have absolutely loved every Alinco product I've ever owned and I'm sure the 235 will be no exception. If you want to get on 220, this is your radio. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Anyone else have one of these?

Hello
I have the DR 135 with the tnc and the 235..Nice rig..Oh yea
I also have the DJ 596...I have never had problems with any
Alinco...The 596 has been beat to death and works great..5
years on the original battery and it's still good...What you said about the 235 is accurate..I have a lot of Yaesu and Icom and Kenwood also and would rate them all A1.. I have had problems with some rigs over the years but some things were my fault hi..I have had a 2 meter ADI it let the smoke out,NOT MY Fault, and the 2meter ht..worked good about a years and blew up and I mean blew up...Keyed up and it exploded inside..took it apart and 3 caps exploded..cool..
It was on it's battery pack too...out to the trash it went

I have the 235 as well. The only issue I have is that the squelch is noisy at time when it is cold but goes away once the radio is warmed up. I wouldn't trade it for another radio because the audio is awsome and the tx clarity is good. I also have the 435 for 440 and love it. Alinco make a nice product.

I also have a 235, MK nobody. Have had the rig for (I think) over 5 years. No issues, good little mobile rig. Great RX. The TX audio is a little hot,I need to keep the mike in my lap mobile to keep from overdeviation.
I also have a pair of DJ-C4, 440 credit card rigs. Both over 7 years old. Sheesh time flys. When did they first come out? Thats when I got them and still in service with the original lithium ion batterys. I sometimes use one as a wireless mike for my FT8900. Put it in Xband mode and sit back in the chair, no mike cord!
I like Alinco products, Good rigs for the $$$
Also have the DR6 for 6 meters. I may need to sell it and get the new Alinco 6 meter rig, looks just like the 2m/1.35/70cm models. Took them long enough.

FYI....If your TX has hot audio on the 235 set it to N-FM and it will dropped about 5-7DB to work repeaters..
This works on a the new model mono band Alinco's!
gff..

I have had a DR-235 for 5 or 6 years. It replaced an ADI-247 that had persistent PL issues in cold weather. I love the DR-235 and have found the receive and transmit audio to be very pleasant. Being able to scan the localy military air frequencies is a big bonus being near two ANG/airforce bases.

The only issue that I have had was random background noise on the transmit audio that sounded like popping and scratching. This was after roughly 4 years of rough service mounted in my vehicle. It was fixed by opening the radio up and cleaning every slide on connector in the radio, including the multi-pin connectors between the faceplate and the main body of the radio. The noise has not returned since I cleaned all the internal connectors.

It has been a very reliable radio.
