Any problems with Yaesu 1802M ?

Anyone experienced problems with an 1802M that flashes frequency cutting off receive and transmit due to ? Power is not interrupted just signal. When it starts flashing ( in either scan or set) you must start scan or PTT button to clear. Happens cold, hot, moving, stopped motor on or off. Have the third unit back now to Yaesu, have had 3 new different brand antennaes, 2 separate new power cords direct to battery and problems continue. Only constant is the vehicle is the same, a late model Silverado. No stray RF, no apparent problems of any type. Totally frustrated, Thanks for any help

hi i have the exact same radio in the car, but i havent had any problems with it, im sure the unit should be replaced, its a good little rugged 2 meters. It does get a little hot, but i havent had any problems like that. have you tried the radio on a power supply in the house at all away from your suv ?

My 1802 does the same thing I have reset it at least 2 times it may go for months before it happens or it may happen daily. No set pattern, mine is in a 01 ford ranger it has done it with 2 different antennas. I guess I almost forgot about it doing it untill this posting. Good radio I get compliments about audio quality all the time. It does get warm

Same radio in a 2006 F250. No probs, wish I could help.

Yep, mine does the flashing thing, just started that. Oh, since it was new mine overheats really quick, I had to put a fan blowing across the heat sinks to make it stop overheating. Let me know what yall do to make it stop flashing !

People, please.

The entire case of the 1802 is a heat sink. There are no separate heat sinks.

As the case is a heat sink, it stands to reason that the thing will get hot. It's just doing its job.

If you can't stand the heat, don't touch the case. The radio doesn't care.

Yes it does. When it gets to a certain temp, it ceases transmitting.

No, it actually shuts down, without failure. It has a built in temp sensor and when it hits around 135 degrees, it shuts the transmitter off until the unit cools down. Then the unit beeps at you to tell you it is in temp alarm.

Thanks. Didn't know that, as I've never experienced that.

Maybe because I keep mine at 25 watts for mobile work, which is more than adequate.

Mine flashes "HI TEMP" and when I put it on the internal temperature display, it starts doing this around 162 degrees, and it stops transmitting. A 5 min high power QSO is usally what gets it going. As long as I am running at mid power it is fine, but I use if for simplex.... Poor choice of radio for simplex.
