I like it but be prepared for an onslaught of the 'it ain't ham radio' crowd.
While I was in the hospital I discovered how cool it was to be able to talk to hams all over the world with it. Radios were not allowed in the hospital or in Iraq, yet I made friends with a ham in Iraq while I was recovering from a triple bypass.
I still use it once in a while and plan to use it more if I get a job out of state and have to stay in a hotel for a month with no HF rig to play with.
The program is great, works well, emulates ham radio better than anything I have seen yet and is populated with a very cordial, friendly group of ham radio operators. I would hazard to say that the ops on CQ100 have better practices than those on 'real radio'.
Maybe I will catch you there someday!

I like it for the simple reason that I live in an apt and there is a no antenna rule here, not even a sat. dish http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif so it works great on my LT. I do plan on getting an IC7000 to put in my Tahoe but that wont happen for quite some time and I have'nt had an HF rig of any type for a number of years. ( had to seel everything off due to depleated finaces http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif ) All in all I like the CQ100 http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
If you like ham radio for making friends and talking, I guess you'll find it exciting.
If you like ham radio because it's radio and electronics, you won't find CQ100 interesting.
Personally I fall into category 2, so I find CQ100 boring. I don't see the point.
But for some people it can prove to be a viable substitute, which brings us to the question - why require a license?

CQ100 Does require a license, in that you can not use it until your call sign is verified. Unlike some, there are those of us that can not afford hf rigs until tax time or a lottery winning hihi but it will do just fine for me till I can find a place that does not have antenna restrictions. As the old saying goes, "Dont knock it till you try it"

I enjoy using CQ100 when traveling when finding a WIFI hot spot. Have talked to many hams unable to own a radio or with antenna estrictions. It is also great to be able to chat with a ham in Australia without waiting for a band opening. By using an interface such as my Navigator, I can patch CQ100 through to our local repeaters and even on HF, giving many hams an a chance to actually get on the air with me being a control operator.
