Ok,

Nothing to do with ham radio but I figured that I have a question that I need answered and where better than on a website forum that has TONS of readers.

I am a paramedic that lives outside of Yellowstone (but still in Wyoming) by a few hours. I have been doing this for several years now and would LOVE to work in the park this upcoming summer. HOWEVER I cannot find out where or even "IF" a paramedic can apply for such things. I cant even tell you what happens when you call 911 in the park.

I know of several ambulances outside of the park that do assist the park service but not what I'm looking for.

So my hope is that somebody online here will have some in depth knowledge of the Yellowstone emergency medical services and could point me the right way.

Brad.

Ps. I have dug and dug into the federal job websites without any luck. I don't think thats the direction to go

I thought you were going to ask me to transfer funds won from the Nigerian lottery.

Hmm, federal park jobs eh? That's a tough one, but I bet someone knows, calling all rangers... calling all rangers...

Sounds like a federal job that requires a civil service exam where preference is given to vets.

I truely hope you find what you are seeking. According to scientists, however, Jellystone is ready to pop at any given moment and when it does I dont think emergency services are gonna help much. Run as far away from there as you can!!!!!!!! (just kidding ya)!!!! But in all seriousness, I hope you get the job of your dreams!!!!! (It is ready to pop though)

Brad,

I think you'll find that medical services are provided by surrounding counties with no actual paramedics employed by the Parks Service within the park.

You might look into search and rescue units in the area. Probably not quite as busy but when they are activated I would imagine it would be quite rewarding work.

Thanks to all.

Ya the Yellowstone CALDERA (or however you spell it) is supposed to be overdue for a pop. I'm not worried since I am close enough that I will perish rather quickly once it starts. I wont have to linger on.

And I do know some of the surrounding hospitals that provide coverage. I have some medical field friends at Westpark in Cody and some more in West Yellowstone, MT. They may be able to answer the questions if I can find their phone numbers.

Ive spent lots of time in the park and have recently been wondering who would respond to my emergency. I did some looking at the SAR up there but it turned up bumkis.

Thanks all for looking.
BRad

And PS JTY, I have been to Thermop. Go up ther quite often. Was recently up there and got to raft the Wind River. Got caught in a thunderstorm in the canyon and watched trees blow up on the banks. Was pretty neat.

I'm planning to go there in April. They have a free public facility at the hot spring. Is it worth the visit?

There used to be a small hospital at Lake Village in the park. If it's still there, I'm sure they could tell you where to go next. The only reason I know this is that I spent the day there. Something to do with a nail gun and my knee. The rest is a blur....:p

Don't know about medical services, but it used to be that the services in a park were provided by organizations far from the park itself. #I know that, for instance, to work in the lodges in Glacier, you applied at some place near Mammoth cave. #But that's pretty old info...from the mid 60's. It would seem as if a good web search might turn up the answers you're looking for.

As for Yellowstone blowing....I hear different things. #Some say it's overdue...others say it's thousands of years in the future. #I'm not sure what I want to be true! # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Good luck in your search, and I hope you find what you're looking for.

if you're interested in a job with the national parks service (department of the interior) then you can check out usajobs.gov (http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/jobsearch.asp?sort=rv&vw=d&brd=3876&ss=0&customapplicant=15513,15514,15515,15669,15523,1551 2,15516,45575&q=yellowstone) ... you can set up a profile there that emails you new jobs which meet specific criteria on a regular basis.

Seems like you are going the long way around to find your answer, why not call someone in charge at the park and ask them? Good Luck on you quest.
