Hello,
I recently bought a Serial<=>USB converter in hopes of using it with for soundcard Digital and CAT. It works perfect for soundcard digital but it won't work for CAT. Specifically with Ham Radio Deluxe.
I try to connect to my radio and I get this message:
Could Not Connect to Radio, please check all settings are correct
If any of you use HRD, it has a check-list to the right, everything works, but then it says it "Can not read Frequency"
Any suggestions of what to do?
Or have any of you found a converter that works with CAT?
BTW, the interface is an IOGear, Converter (http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0202913)
I know it says, PDA, but several Hams said it SHOULD work anyway.
Any help welcome, tnx!

Duncan,
I am using a Keyspan adapter with HRD for rig control under Windows XP. What O/S and rig are you running? Also, please list the settings for your HRD setup.

Tnx for the reply Rob.
I did some more searching and actually found and solved the problem. I guess I jumped the gun in terms of getting a new adapter http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Tnx for the reply though!

Have you tried doing a CAT SCAN?

FWIW, I have a generic USB/Serial off ebay and use it with no problems with HRD.
Just because it is IOGear doesnt mean it is "perfect", I almost got one until I saw the price. Not all USB/Serial adapters are made the same.

Yep,
Come to think of it, I have the same problem with a Linux distro. Not that much of a bother; though, the PTT line is functional and it does work with HRD in windows.

Hello,
Tell me a little more about using linux as a distro to control a rig, particularly I have a gentoo running on a dell inspiron 6400, I'd like to control my rig but I still haven't done it!!!.

I'll let you know when I get it working. hihi In all seriousness, I am running serial ports on a USB card. The Linux Distro is PC LinuxOS. My next step is to put the PCLinuxOS on my old 1.3 Ghz HP which does have two real serial ports. The rig control is part of a Linux program called Fldigi and at this time does not provide much more than frequency readout; though, I need to get it working to be sure. I ought to try HRD under Wine but have no experience with Wine so thats a whole other question. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi, Robert
Have you ever tried the croosover software?, if not, crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/)
Good luck!

Forget about those converters.
If you use a tower or desktop computer, install a pci serial card.
If you use a laptop, use a pcmcia serial card.
These are connected to the bus and the processor properly accesses the card without any conversions.
