Just became a VE as well and was glad to participate in the whole experience.
I've participated in various classes in the past - but this was my first time from beginning to end. (helps to have a few good volunteers).
Well, at the end of the 4 weeks, we tested and just started our final 2 classes - "Getting Started in Amateur Radio".
Actually, there are a few interested in learning CW - one has an interest in QRP altogether!
I was rather pleasantly surprised at the interest in CW.
The 2 added classes are also a neat added bonus a well (seems better than "here's your license, bye bye!").
When asked what the best skill set was with a new radio, I said "learn to listen!". LOL.
Anywhoo, It was my first shot at teaching a licensing class, so I had to share!!

Nice job!
Good to hear you have a plan to stay with the new licensees. If your experience is like mine, you won't be disappointed.
Yesterday I attended a Red Cross CPR class. The instructor was a ham that got his license after attending my very first ham class. It was the best CPR class I have ever been to. You just never know how far your students will go. I have one that has made it to Extra, three to General, a daughter that was the youngest FCC licensed Morse Code telegrapher in the State of Michigan and a couple Techs on their way up the ladder that love to build stuff, all students in my classes.
Teaching ham radio is about as good as things get, IMHO.
Again, FB. OM! Keep up the good work, our future is at stake here. Please, consider 'continuing education' and be available as an Elmer no matter what level the students end up settling for.
And most of all, thanks!

Congratulations!
The first licensing class I taught in 9Y in my old high school got two students passing the exams, a brother and sister.
Don't think they ever got licenses, and the brother is now a SK. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
I helped with a class way back in '85. Out of the six that took the class three remained active ops. Two of them are now SK and one remains active. We spent a long time with them as we not only took them through Novice but Tech as well.
I think it would be fun to do it again provided we have some students. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Congrats, Jonathan.

Yeah.....
The only thing that comes close is when I taught computer education in my old neighborhood. A very poor urban neighborhood. I would (after hours, and had to fight the union for this one) allow parents and their kids come in and teach them how to use a computer.
Really neat when a parent tells you they found a job online and sends you an email to tell you!
Almost as neat as when your students call you on the radio with their new calls.
