Hi,

I'm a General who passed 5 wpm code test, but never really developed code skills beyond that. #I'm looking to change that and would like to find someone with the same idea/or elmer that would like to sked qsos a few times a week on a regular basis. #My QTH is Everett, WA (20 miles north of Seattle).

E-Mail me, maybe we can work something out... Im not that fast, or that good.... but I have the same thing in mind, more contacts and QSOs make for a better fist and learn to decode by ear better!

I would also like somebody to practice slow CW QSOs with. E-mail me if interested.

I've done a few CW qso's this year but still tend to shy away from it. When I was a novice in 1970, all my qso's were cw, but I gave up the hobby many years. Have you heard of qsonet.com? They have a computer program you can use for free for 3 months (then it's only $23 a year I believe)
It doesn't get on the real radio, but is rather like a computer chat program. They do have CW portions of the bands though, plus 2 beacons for listening practice.
If you try to use CW, you will have to copy by ear, but you can send via keyboard.
I did some research and found this diagram for a simple code practice oscillator you can build in probably 1/2 hour with spare parts:

I used a 2N3904 for the NPN and a 2N3906 for the PNP with good results, and hooked up a key to it, all mounted on a 4x12 piece of plywood, with stand-off posts to raise the little 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" circuit board I rigged up and the battery strapped to the plywood with a plastic strap.
I put a .047 capacitor in parallel with the original .047 for a lower tone, and have a clip to change sizes for whatever tone you want. I can now plug this into the mic jack of my computer and key into the app with it. I found I still need to have a speaker connected as well or it won't work straight into the mic jack.
But now, when I have time I can find some old timers there and perhaps do some real practice without worrying about band conditions. Plus, mostly, I can use it at my wife's sisters place when we are up there for Xmas and I have to be away from my radios, HI HI.

I am available most days during the week at lunchtime. I operate the W1CGA club station (I don't have my own rig yet)

I am a no code General, that learned the code anyway. I am slow, but ready to pound brass. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
