China hinted Thursday that Congress' honoring of the Dalai Lama and U.S. arms sales to Taiwan led it to cancel a U.S. Navy visit to Hong Kong, an incident that could open a new rift in military relations that had warmed in recent years.

So much for the "autonomy" that China says it granted to Hong Kong when they took over.

Since China is practically our sole supplier of consumer junk, what does that say about our relations if the military situation gets out of hand? China has us by the scrotum, since our economy would drop off the cliff if they cut off our imports, not to mention all the loans to the US that China is holding. But China's economy would also drop off the cliff if it lost its number one customer for their manufactured goods.

An old Chinese saying goes, "May you live in interesting times".

Indeed...

Perhaps the navy should look for a permanent alternative in the future.

Losing the American Market....a few trillion.
Defaulted loans....................a few trillion.

Trashing America..................Priceless!

I don't trust 'em.

UNLESS

(OK, tin-foil hat time)

This is being run by an entity beyond the US and Chinese governments, and this is all "window dressing." #I would like to think (wishfully) that we haven't really been as stupid as it looks like when we look at the US/China economic situation. # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

It's not that simple.

China also has lots of reserves in US dollars. If they dump those, then prepare for the USA to become a 3rd world country as our currency will be worthless.

Well it could be...........................

1) They are mad about the lead paint found on toys being returned for refunds and that causes a loss in revenue in imported unsafe toys.

2) Haven't they got over the Question I never got an answer on the White paper that got flamed or is that one dude still confused over a simple Questions were asked?

3) maybe they have not got a Car made in China to work right and they had to junk it ! # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The Chinese already announced recently that they were going to shift their investments from dollars to Euros. That does not sound like a good thing for Uncle Sam.

China sends periodic messages to the rest of the world when it is not pleased with things. This is just one of them. Retaliation or escalation are not called for. We do the same thing when they do things that infuriate us.
