firemen spies (http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Homeland_Security_turns_firefighters_into_domestic _1129.html)

Well, first we had to fear and avoid the police, now it's the fire department. Guess I'll let the place burn down before calling them for help now!

Have any of you all watched the entire five seasons of Babylon 5? Doesn't this crap remind you of the "Nightwatch" and "Ministry of Peace"http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Interesting to say the least.

Jebus H Christmas! They've been spying for the narc squad since forever!
FM: Fire inspection.
ME: "I'm trying to get ready for work."
FM: It'll just take a minute.
ME:"Why are you looking in my drawers?"
FM: Butane refill canisters are a hazard.
ME: "They're legal aren't they?"
FM: Why do you hate America?

I like this line from the little stalin.

"Unlike law enforcement officials, firemen can go onto private propertywithout a warrant, not only while fighting fires but also for inspections. "It's the evolution of the fire service," said a Phoenix, AZ fire chief of his information-sharing arrangement with law enforcement."

Soon Gentelman, soon.

Get ready.

As a professional career firefighter I'll chime in on this one. First off, that article is so full of holes that it doesn't even dignify tearing it apart. For example, FDNY chiefs DON'T do common ordinary fire inspections. If an inspection were to be done with the purpose of doing an end run around the 4th amendment it would be the fire marshalls unit. They're mostly cop type's anyway.

If I were to ever be asked or told to do what that article is describing it would be my last day on the job.

People "expressing hate or discontent with the United States." Wouldn't that number be 100 percent minus the current government approval rating?

If having a concience and being an honest person makes you unique, then the answer is yes. Is that a problem?

Ans: this statement is true in our current society (member Bill Clinton?)
Afterthought: since this statement is true it's a problem.
Conclusion: Problems are unique but popular and widespread in today's society.

I'm with the conservatives on this one: more rice, beans, and ammo, not necessarily in that order.

And as for "Jebus H. Christmas", I learned something in 2007.
My Dad always used Jesus' middle initial when addressing him, except for those occasions where Dad thought Christ was handicapped and using a crutch. But, as a fan of CSI Miami, I now know that "H" stands for Horatio. So, this year, as a compromise for those who get upset if I don't say "Merry Christmas", I'm going to say "Happy Horatio Holiday" instead.

The government requires me to pee in a bottle before I can be trusted to configure a router or dacs. Now the firemen are supposed to monitor me for "hate or discontent"? Swell.

I'm glad I don't work for the govt. A bottle presents a small target.

They make us pee in a cup in order to be qualified to install toilets and weld pipe.

Hmm...Unique. When I read your first post I wasn't sure if you were ribbing me or what. That and the fact that I was on first cup of coffee and needed to get ready for work is why I didn't respond.

In reading the rest of the thread, particularly the post quoted, I further understand what you meant.

So what does unique mean anyway? (and I don't mean the gunpowder)
Answer: (Websters paraphrased) 1: being the only one : sole
2 a: being without a like or equal : unequaled b: distinctively characteristic : peculiar
3: unusual

Now then, the second question posed is, "is this a problem"?

Well, thats open to interpretation. In theory it shouldn't be - not in America anyway. In reality however it seems that a whole lot of 'people' would be much happier if we all just acted like good little wind up toys and marched in step to the same drum. The drum that THEY beat.(I would identify those 'people' but then I wouldn't be a very good spy for them would I?)

As far as having a concience and being an honest person your example pretty much covered it. How can I do better? Unfortunately much of society thinks that way now. (example: I didn't have sex with that woman. Or better yet, the famous escape clause: Define sex)

So yes, being honest and having a concience is unique. And that is a problem, a VERY big problem.

So true!

But the good folks hanging around Philly over 200 years ago thought that having the freedom to speak ones mind was a good thing. Especially about the Government.

You have to pee in a bottle to configure routers and dacs (whatever dacs are). And I don't have to pee in a bottle in order to do arithmetic. What is this world coming to. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Your time will come. This BS didn't start for me until after the Congress Criminals passed some new legislation in 1992.
