View Full Version : Remember the cruise ship that sank

Well, well all those tourists on board the M.S. Explorer that sank recently near the South Shetland islands were taking a tour of the Antarctic to see global warming up close when their ship hit an iceberg and sank.

Not only that, is the owner of the ship a buddy of AL Gore? #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As the Los Angeles Times described it: “The first cruise ship built to ply the frigid waters of Antarctica became the first to sink there Friday. #The red-hulled Explorer struck ice, taking water as 154 passengers and crew members scrambled to safety aboard lifeboats and rafts. #The ship later went to the bottom.”

The story is here (http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/780)

How many tons of fuel oil were put into the water?

Somebody best buy some "offsets" quick!!

ICEBERG?!?!?!?! Where did that thing come from? I didn't think any were left due to Global Warming. Well, we must increase carbon emissions ASAP. We can not have icebergs floating about sinking ships. Think of all the fuel oil that gets spilled into the oceans. I bet Halliburton is behind this. I bet they have a glass sub that looks like an iceberg and they did this....

I have a question...
If for the good of humanity and the enviroment in general, scientists decided that we must raise the average temp of the entire earth by 10 degrees F.... What would they suggest we do? How could it be done?

Have you not heard, GW and Halilburton have a weather machine that can generate and steer alll kinds of weather. Hope they can steer some moisture across the dry parts of the USA

Halliburton's Doomsday machines aside.... Lets pretend that they do not exist for just a moment here... How could we, humanity, raise the average temperature of the earth by 10 degrees F over the next 20 years? Can it be done? If so how?

You mean other than pointing out the obvious Neocon agenda of the story that you linked to? Everything. That quote was taken from YOUR link. It means that, rather than look for a real story, you're trying to politicize a near disaster. It's not important to the writer that these people nearly died or that they were saved. It's important that he know WHO they were. Nothing like being a whore to the neocon agenda. Amazing, now there are neopimps in Canada too. I guess their press is "Liberal" too.

What does your THREAD have to do with real news?

The ship struck a small calf iceberg during the night so perhaps they should have had more on watch. The keel of the ship was double hulled but the side where a great lump of floating ice would normally strike the vessel was only a ....single thickness and the hole was about a foot long. Surprised they were not able to seal it off.

Well pard me. You and JO seem to have been separated at birth. So, you have no idea of what is in the link - or else you would've known where I got the quote - and you're wondering what this has to do with the thread?

Maybe you should read the story in the link. This thread is NOT about a ship that sank. This is about a guy complaining about the people ON the ship that sank. The allegation is that they were "Eco-Warriors" although he claims he doesn't know who the passengers were, so apparently there's no way he can actually prove that. I guess he was upset that they didn't drown.

Maybe his compadre will get a few in New Hampshire to make up for his disappointment. And maybe, just maybe, before asking me what I post has to do with a thread, you'll click on the link and find out. Much like those people who come here and want others to Google stuff for them.

Naaaah. Even I know better than that.

You must suffer from AADHD if you think that. Are you following the complete line or has you ship deviated off course?

The story was about a ship that sank AND the people on board. What is the deal, have you lost the ability to comprehend?

It is rather stretching a long bow to say the ship was full of Eco-Warriors because it was going to the Antarctic & the owner is purported to be one of Al Gore's best mates.

Maybe Tourism in the Antarctic is something strange & startling to people who live closer to the other pole, but it is a simple fact of life to those of us in the Southern Hemisphere.(If way to expensive for most of us!)

Back in the 1980's Dick Smith (VK2DIK) organised 747 flights to Antarctica. This was followed rapidly by others, in fact #Air New Zealand lost an Aircraft with all hands when it flew into a mountain in this region.
Remember also the DXpeditions to Heard Island some years ago.

Ship tours to Antarctica are carried on by a number of companies, although the "Explorer" may have been the first specifically designed for this service.

So the ship hit an iceberg!Things like this happen at sea.
All hands were saved & will go on with their lives, whether as Eco-Warriors,Neocons, Liberals, etc.
The iceberg didn't give a damn about their politics!

Icebergs aren't that uncommon in the region just south of Cape Horn, but it isn't really hardcore Antarctica.

Of more concern is the disclosure of some issues with the condition of the vessel. Wonder where it is registered,Panama or Liberia maybe?

In VK ships registered in those countries were regularly
"arrested" in port & made to bring their safety equipment up to #the same standards as LLoyds registered vessels.
I haven't heard it happen lately, but whether this is due to smaller numbers of newer & larger ships docking (so their equipment won't have had time to become unsafe), or whether these checks have become victims of the "Small Government" & "Don't interfere with trade" ideologues.

I have no malady. All neocons suffer from the same collective delusion and are cookie cutter humans following their masters voice. Offended that you could be mistaken for someone else? Why? You all say the same thing, the same way with the same words taken from the same pundits. I could easily confuse you all for lemmings. And in '08, we'll all get to see how high that cliff you're jumping from is.

The story is about how the ship sank and is hurting the enviroment, a mock concern of the neocon right. This only matters when it's Al Gore or a political point can be made. Where is all this 'concern' when a tanker breaks up? Yah. It's about an allegation made that the owner of the line is an assistant to Al Gore and a further link that is implied that Gore is connected to the company, neither of which is proven. It's about how the people on it weren't identified to the authors liking.

I suggest that you take reading for comprehension. First grade would be a good start. Oh, and it's nice to see you finally made an attempt to read it. Didn't actually read it since you certainly didn't understand it. I hear there was a monkey who could read AND UNDERSTAND what he read too. I'd be insulted if I were that monkey and someone told me you evolved from him. I'd be a Creationist if I were that monkey. Of course comprehension takes brains. Maybe we should get someone to read it to you at bedtime. Al Gore with the Scooby-Doo gang and the sunken ship. OOOOOOOO! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Let's look at the first paragraph, sfb:

Quote[/b] ]You’d never read this in the mainstream media: The owner of MS Explorer that sank, leaving a huge carbon footprint at the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean Friday is an acolyte of teensy-weensy carbon footprint crusader Al Gore.

The idea of the ship sinking is subordinate to the political agenda of boogie man Al Gore. Is he running? He should be, look at all the free press that scared neocon blogs give him daily. Heck, look at all the print he gets here at QRZ.

It's like the ghost of stolen elections past coming to haunt them... Shaggy? Scooby??
