Interesting but poorly written article.

I thought it was pretty good.. It didnt say alot about Ham radio. I would have liked to have seen more about it. But what it did say, was positive..Especially compared to 11M.. Which is another reason why people cant tell us apart from CBers...They are uneducated to the fact. And alot of us would rather just shun them for their ignorence, rather than tell them of its importance..

Yes, CB is the most COMMON way to send a message 4-15 miles #through the airwaves, it is just the OPERATORS that are a pain.

If foolks would just straighten up on the cb band, it COULD be a great band....but you have too many foolks with purposely misadjusted microphones, echo systems that need thrown in the trash, and improperly adjusted amplifiers .

IF foolks would just use the plain radios just as they came out of the box from the factory. with the ordinary hand mikes, and NO amplifiers, they COULD have a great emergency communications system which COULD rival amateur radio on the local level......but they wont. # # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

They just HAVE to take a brand new ( good ) radio to the local screwdriver technician, and " peak it out " where it really wont talk THAT much better than fresh out of the box , void any warranty it had by doing it, possibly stretch and shorten the life of any of the major transmitter components to need repair faster than usual, all to possibly ( under ideal conditions which never really exist ) talk a half mile further, or make the "s-meter " swing just a little bit more on the receiver end....(wow --sarcasm ) .

Just curios, I know its illegal to operate on 11Ms with external power..But under emergency conditions in order to make the contact. Is it acceptable in your own appinion? I see nothing wrong with it under those conds.. And are wondering what others think! And as I said, I know its illegal. Im not saying for general use here..

Ground wave non-skip communications on 11m, which is what CB communications are supposed to be, will benefit little from the use of external power amplifiers even for emergency communications.

I just asked a simple question as to what if..Especially in areas outwest.. If it came down to it youd do it... And I dont blame you. If thats what it takes, then thats what you do. Right or wrong... Its just a simple question to think about..Not all folks have cell phones..But you might have to reach someone who does.

DAVID --- some times in life it is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

IF your scenerio DID occur, the USE of the illegal amplifier to get help FOR the emergency may get overlooked, but I would NOT count on it occuring.

One COULD always say that they were unaware of the amplifier being used, and that you were just trying to assist.

Your INTENT to assist in the emergency , might over ride what rules you do break while getting help .

I think you are wise enough to know the difference.

On the CELL PHONE COVERAGE issue, not even all of Alabama is covered by cell phones, ....and at the rate they are going, it never will.
