Putin criticizes US campaign in Iraq (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071018/ap_on_re_eu/russia_putin)
Quote[/b] ]MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin, in his latest jab at Washington, suggested Thursday that the U.S. military campaign in Iraq was a "pointless" battle against the Iraqi people, aimed in part at seizing the country's oil reserves.
And some other interesting stuff...
Quote[/b] ]In one question, a mechanic from the Siberian city of Novosibirsk asked the president about comments he said were made some years ago by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who suggested that Siberia had too many natural resources to belong to one country.
"I know that some politicians play with such ideas in their heads," he said, dismissing the notion as wishful thinking, or "political erotica that ... hardly leads to a positive result."
"The best example of that are the events in Iraq — a small country that can hardly defend itself and which possesses huge oil reserves. And we see what's going on there. They've learned to shoot there, but they are not managing to bring order," he said.
"One can wipe off a political map some tyrannical regime ... but it's absolutely pointless to fight with a people," he said. "Russia, thank God, isn't Iraq. It has enough strength and power to defend itself and its interests, both on its territory and in other parts of the world."
Putin suggested the U.S. campaign was aimed at seizing control of Iraq's vast oil wealth, and said a concrete date must be set for the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
He's only saying what the whole world thinks of the FM's adventurism.
I love the line "...political erotica that ... hardly leads to a positive result." #

He may not have realized the "political erotica" was a reference to a quote in the original post...you know, as if he didn't even read it before he responded automatically.

Nahhh, I did read it, then found out how useless it is.
Doesn't mention word one about what has been going in Russia for the past nine months or so.
Without that, you have no perspective.
Diversionary tactic...... the libs taught me that one.
Thanx,

Why is everyone acting like this is new information? Putin has disagreed with President Bush since the last time they met and has had no problem saying so. What's new about this?
I don't agree that the war is just for oil, but I do agree that strategically they deem it important to have a stable democracy, friendly to the US in the region. From that standpoint it is about oil on some level but also so much more having to do with mid-east politics and business.

Well, for starters, they're fresh comments. Plus, down in the article, there's that bit about "political erotica."

I think its time for the US to pull out of Iraq and Canada to pull out of Afganastan , I see no point in being there at the moment.

I can't find the quote(s) right now, but this is not radically different from what Mr. Putin has said before about the situation in Iraq.
Beyond that erotica is always good, though I don't know about with politicians, at least not the ones that are mentioned.

Would anyone anywhere expect Vladimir Vladimirov Putin to agree with anything the US government says !
I bet if he visited Britain he would be quite at home seeing all the roadside CCTV cameras and he would be envious of the ability of our government to make criminals of everybody, just like in the days of Uncle Joe.!
He would be able to chat with all the Russian billionaires in London, sink a few vodka's and contemplate the traditional Russian saying. Evry von in Rashia is eekvull, but some are more eekvull than udders ! Dosvadanya.

Guilty until proven innocent, seems to be the new trend in both America and the UK. Sadly.

Go easy on Janet now! She has Parkinson's Disease. It makes her hand shake. That could be a GOOD thing in a soapy tub!
