I would like to hear from anyone who has owned/used the Hy-Gain TH-3JRS Triband antenna. Was it easy to assemble? How well did it work for you on transmit and on receive? Did you have any problems with it?

Thanks

I have one, and have used it strictly for DXpeditions. When I bought it, one of the traps had a broken insulator. I needed to take it out on a trip straight away, and so never replaced it. I just wrapped some tape over it.

Works great.

And yes - it is easy to assemble. Since I bought it with taking it apart and re-setting it up all the time, I used electrical tape to mark the element locations.

One thing you must remember - make sure the holes in the trap housings are pointing downwards, so when they get wet, they will drain.

However, it should be up high - a 10-foot mast won't do any good.

Now I take a vertical with me when I travel - I use the Crushcraft um - Cushcraft R5, which is no longer made.

If possible, go with the full size version. The Jr has not been redesigned in 40 years, also, it will not work with a linear. I burned out my Mosley TA33Jr by putting a Kilowat into it. My TH3-MK4 works like gangbusters. The first hour on 15m SSB I worked China, Mongolia, Thailand, Japan, and S.Korea from NJ. The TH3 is not as simple to assemble as the TA33. Believe the JR will have a narrower bandwidth than the MK4.
