In recent (2006) Seattle Arbitron ratings Thom Hartman (talk show host on Air America) beat Rush Limbaugh. Amazing that such a thing is even remotely possible. #Perhaps if given the opportunity American a are more interested in alternative views than many conservatives might believe.

So, what difference does it make ? The fact is that according to the Rush lovers it could not be done. No liberal leftie could possibly exceed Rush on the Arbs anywhere.
Did you ever listen to Thom Hartman ? I have. many times. The man does not bash the administration, call names, and shout over callers like the AM neocon crowd does. Instead the man forms intelligent well thought out arguments that are interesting, compelling and thought provoking. #Everyday he has at least one guest on the show who offers an opposing point of view. He engages them in polite and sensible debate, he doesn't tell them to "shut up", or cut them off, etc. He has had guests from the Ayn Rand Institute, the Cato Institute, from Worldnetdaily and others. He treats them all with utmost respect and politeness and #engages gentlemanly conversation with them.
Perhaps it goes to show that in Seattle there are people that appreciate an intelligent talk show host who can formulate points of view intelligently and articulately. Perhaps if more Americans, liberal or conservative, were exposed to talk show hosts like Thom Hartman people would be better informed and talk radio would be a far more satisfying experience.
Incidentally, I think Thom Hartman's background and credentials are a bit more impressive than Rush's

It is also where we turned to when we looked for new syndicated shows.

I had the misfortune of having to live and work in the Seattle/Tacoma area for 6 months the first half of the year. Believe me when I say, "It was difficult." Luckily, I was able to live, on a lake, at a friend's place in a "more conservative" country area where King County's sphere of influence wasn't as pronounced -- between Carnation and Duvall.
What a "freak show" this RagChew section is becoming... just like Seattle.

Around here (DFW), Air Hate America used to be on a little peanut whistle station 80 miles away. They could be heard on a good car radio, but not even above the noise level on the average home radio. Well, guess what??? Even that failed. No more Air Hate America in this market. Guess we will have to catch Al Franken on Letterman once in a while. Air America just a few months ago was on their 2nd or 3rd Bankruptcy going down for the final count. And now the NeoDems are trying to sell us that it did better in the ratings than the top most listened to Talk show host in the country,the One Hilliary tried to personally run off the air.
Did the NeoDems hire Art Bell's friend to do the ratings ??
Have you NeoDems been hustling the Liberterians for votes and smoking some of their POT??
BTW if anyone in the party is interested in buying a bridge ....

Apparently you never listened to Thom Hartman because if you have you'd understand that he does not do hate radio. The man is articulate, intelligent and has superb credentials. he backs up what he says with verifiable facts, he is scholarly, and he does something that Rush Limbaugh will never do, he regularly debates people with opposing points of view right on his program. He does not belittle people with opposing views nor tell them to shut up as do several conservative talk show hosts. Thom Hartman runs an intelligent and gentlemanly radio program. The kind that is so lacking in todays world. Furthermore, his credentials are far more impressive than Rush's.

PEQ, what's really sad about your statement is that you're right and it reflects how Americans lack critical thinking skills.
I'm sure there are several reasons for this.
Upbringing and public schools just being the tip of the iceberg. Too often we teach our children to respect authority simply without question. When children start asking questions we call them ungrateful, disrespectful and troublesome. At which point, some shoot up their schools because we neglected their questions long long ago.
