Just got this as an email:

Quote[/b] ]As of midnight on February 18, 2008, cellular telephone companies will not be required to provide analog service. While most wireless telephone users will not be affected by this transition (often called the "analog cellular sunset"), some users may be affected. In addition, the transition could affect some alarm systems and some users of OnStar in-vehicle communications service.

Once again, the US follows the EU. It went years ago here, but then we got GSM, and no-one arguing that a technical standard allowing interoperation wasn't a cartel.

And NTSC (Never Twice the Same Color) will be interred In February 2009.

Then the FCC ought to rescind that unconstitutional requirement that "cellular frequencies" on all receivers and scanners sold in US be blocked, now that interception of mobile phone conversations on an ordinary scanner has become a moot point.

ECPA has become a moot point as well, and should be repealed, but knowing the way congress and the White House operate, that will never happen.
