ye.

# Are you tired of your well thought QRZ comments just disappearing into the void of Fred's server? #Are you tired of having to repeat your wisdom countless times, just to find another newcomer asking the EXACT SAME question that's been answered 634,471,364,328,364,065,016 times before?

Well...the "Opus of Amateur Radio Knowledge and Lore" has come to your rescue! # Why not submit your wisdom to this fine book! #Anything you say will STAY said! #You will be immortalized, along with the likes of H.P. Maxim, F.E. Handy, and......uh....ME!

Don't be shy! # Say it once, say it right, say it in the Opus of Amateur Radio Knowledge and Lore!

Are we going to start using hear ye, hear ye instead of cq cq from now on? Or will that be used instead of QST? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Personally I think " hear ye, hear ye " should be replaced with the more commonly heard " Is that a big 10-4 " ?? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well, ya know....if this book takes off....it might launch a periodical to go with it. Perhaps we should call that Hear Ye!

Works for me!

No. CQ is "Hear Me,"

QRZ is "Hear Ye?"

KL7AJ,
Good idea Eric, however I think you will run into the same problem the Handbook has. New people pay good money for the book and open it up and it does NOTHING,it just sits there waiting for some one to come along and read it to them!!
On the the Internet they can always find some naive Donny Dogood, who they can con into doing the #research and present them with the answer.

Now the real Hams who have the genuine interest in Ham Radio ,wild horses could not hold them back. However the ARRL has changed the ratio to a one in 10 of finding some one who really cares. # # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Well, I think I might have a slight angle...if not an actual edge, over the Handbook. I"m going to keep this a highly literary style. It will read almost like a work of fiction. It will be filled with anecdotes and stories of real live hams, and how they figured this stuff out. Some of it will be like a mystery. I'm expecting a lot of non-hams to pick this up and just read it for entertainment. It can be done.

And the Supreme court has it right, this came from, guess where ? The merry old England that never was merry.

The man with the biggest mouth in the town used to stand in the town square yelling his head off and giving the poor hard up peasants all the local news.
I went to a Town Criers Contest once and I have never heard so many oversized men with foghorn voices !

The winning town crier was a woman ! I never knew they ever had women town criers when England was supposed to be merry. This woman had the loudest foghorn you ever heard, I'm sure she could be heard half a mile away in a 60 MPH gale !

No. #But my wife has, at times, offered to do a similar procedure on me--or maybe it was threat. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask.

For several years, I was the default FD coordinator for the local club--no real affiliation, just that most participants were members of the club. And I considered recording a repeater announcement. It would consist a boatswain's call and the announcement, "All hams on deck for Field Day preparations!" It would play at 2PM on FD Friday.

But then I thought, would a botswains call be considered music? So I never recorded the announcement.

I think you're thinking of a bris. *wince* http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

IMHO, a boatswains pipe is a signalling device, much like a telegrapher's key. Both make a distinct musical sound, I wouldn't consider either a musical instrument though.

That's right. Bris is the ceremony/procedure. Bar-Mitzvah's the party. And what my wife intends on those occasions is no occasion to party--OTOH maybe it is for Lorena B.

And I consider the Boatswains pipe a signaling device as well, but others might consider such a sliding note music--ear of the beholder--even among hams.

I am sending proposals out to several publishers...we'll see what happens. I'd really like to get it on Harper Collins, which published "The Dangerous Book for Boys"....maybe I can ride those coattails a bit...which would most likely make it a hardback...though the difference really is immaterial in todays publishing universe.

I do hope this ends up in every throne room in the world, though. Perhaps I should add some blank sheets in the back, like the old Sears catalogs.

The old man raves about his new hearing aid.

"It is made of glass so you can't even see it! It has so much power in it. It's almost impossible to break as well. I love it!"

His friend asks, "What kind is it?"

The old man looks at his watch. "Quarter to three."
