Hello.

As most know, the single worst thing to fail in the FT-101 is the power transformer, usually caused by somebody overdriving the finals.
I am one who likes to see what can be done.
So, I got an FT-101 cheap, blown transformer.
Some of the boards needed a little bit of TLC, but the basic radio is in good shape.
So, I subbed things until I could get it going again, power transformer, as well as transistors in the DC to DC section were dead as well as a shorted 6JS6, not a 6JS6C.
I have been playing with this unit that I got from Fair Radio Sales a while back, a unit that takes 90 to 150 volts AC or DC and puts out 400 Hz at 117 volts and 12 and 24 volts.
Input at 12 or 24 volts will also work.
It was cheap.
So, with a kludge or 2, I got the radio working with it.
Now, the question is, what is available for a replacement for 6JS6C tubes that is affordable?
Or, should I, as some have done, go to Russian TV sweep tubes?
This radio is very picky as to what brand of sweep tube is used, not any 6JS6C will work, Toshiba is the best by far.
Once I am done I will look at getting a replacement transformer, but this rig is is in fair condition, I bought it for $25 as a parts radio.
RX is excellent now, just a bit of work.
Not bad for a rig that I got 5 hours ago.
I want to make this rig work, not restore it, so any good replacements are welcome.
And, I saw a good condition TS-430 for around the $550 range with PS, is that about right?
The TS-430 is my first fully solid state rig, so I am looking at getting another.
