The dollar is at an all time low against the Euro, so our US ham equipment is cheap enough to overcome VAT, etc.
Wish it was the other way around. Thanks Mr. Greenespan, lol.

BUT isn't our gear made in Japan? If so then we should be paying higher prices if the yen gains on the dollar, no?
So this is a yen vs euro?

Lots of things are still made here, especially accessories and antennas.
Even from what I can see even the YaeKenIcom radios from Japan and China are still cheaper here than in the E.U. and especially England.
My cousin has some Czech friends that come over every year just to go shopping, clothes are very cheap in the U.S. It is cheaper for them to buy two plane tickets and fill up there suitcases than it is to buy locally.
I met a Irish guy at the airport in Moscow last year that came into Newyork city every year before Christmas to go shopping, as it was cheaper than shopping in Dublin.

The reason why everything in Britain is expensive is because we have always suffered from tax greedy governments.
It doesn't matter whether our government is Labour or Conservative the result is the same. At the present time we pay 75% tax on vehicle road fuel and the government is due to increase this in the near future which will mean that a litre of petroleum will be about £1 and diesel fuel will be a little more expensive per litre.
We are saving the planet in Britain !! We have politicians who want to tax every item we buy, you name it, tax it !
Very often it isn't cheaper to buy from the US because of the taxes imposed when the goods arrive in Britain.
People in London say it is cheaper to take a ferry to France or Belgium to have a car service ! Our taxes are so high to pay for all the immigrants who are moving to Britain because our government is so generous to them.
A newspaper today stated that 10,000 council owned properties have been given to immigrants, meanwhile young British people cannot afford now to buy a decent house and the council will not provide housing because they are needed for our new Britons !.

Greenspan, I don't think had a thing to due with it, I think it has to due with other economy's are now up to ours.

It also has to do with the fact that the U.S. gov does nothing to curb it... due to it helping our exports. The lower in value our dollar is, the more we export due to being cheaper as opposed to the competition. China competes with the US in this regard by pegging it's currency to the dollar.

Two of the best performing Amateur transceivers on the market are American made. The Elecraft K3 and the TenTec Orion II. They also sell for a fraction of the price of equivalent performing Japanese radios and aren't loaded down with "features", pretty lights, which the uninformed have been convinced by ridiculous advertising campaigns that they need.
Anybody read the review for the Yaesu FT-2000 in QST this month? My 35 year old Kenwood TS-520 has better numbers. People are running out in droves to get one.

My EU friends told me so.
No kidding. My friends in the UK all ask me to shop for ham gear for them, because they are saving a lot of money buying it here and paying shipping rather than buying it from an EU dealer.
The latest was a friend in Ireland who asked me to price out a SteppIR in the USA and he'd have a relative order it here because buying it from an EU dealer nearly doubles the price.

The motto "God save the Queen!" works in England and places in the USA too.

Look at all the border security dollars we can save.

Better universal health care and stable economy.
Lots of open land way up north to grow and erect our antenna farms.
