It's an oustanding portrayal of future results of dumbing-down.
I'm watching it on Cinemax right now...it'll probably be repeated.

What's the title? Is it one that will come out on DVD?

"Idiocracy." It's already out on DVD.
It's a comedy. Remember, this is Mike Judge, not Michael Moore. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Quote[/b] ]When Mike Judge's highly anticipated futuristic satire "Idiocracy" opened and promptly closed in a few cities last fall (it never played Washington), the blogosphere lit up. Did Twentieth Century Fox, the film's distributor, intentionally dump the movie? Did it have a hand in what most considered the film's chief flaws (a distracting narration, gratuitous expository sequences)? Put simply, did Fox do to "Idiocracy" what it had done to Judge's 1999 comedy "Office Space," and was the new movie eligible for similar cult status?

Sounds like it might be worth seeing. Looks like the same thing happened to it that recently happened to September Dawn. That one didn't even play a half-week here before it was gone.

I am most certainly looking forward to seeing this movie. I've heard from more than one friend that this is a must see and right in my wheelhouse as far as societal discussion/debate.
As far as the conspiracy theories go about it's brief appearance in theaters who knows, more than once movies that weren't deemed mainstream enough, or too political, have disappeared. My first guess would be to say that they just aren't commercially viable, but you never know.

Surprising that many commercially unsuccessful movies end up being great and some successful ones end up being tripe.
PS: Here is a synopsis at Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiocracy
Looks like a must see

Very often with this type of film, the earnings will come from the sale of videos and from cable/satellite rights. It is not really unusual for a studio to short distribution of a film the think will pull badly in the theaters (that also depends on what else is available for theater distribution at the time). Indeed, some are issued as videos without ever making an appearance in a theater.
It is not a conspiracy, but a hard-headed financial decision made with a view to the most revenue.
