God Forbid we raise the tax on smokes. That would rile all those voters in those red states!
I don't understand how anybody can afford to smoke these days, anyway - I sure couldn't. If you're still puffing, you must be a helpless addict. When are you going to start stealing to support your habit?

As a true conservative I feel that health insurance is not the job of the government on the federal level.
If the States want to start their own program they should. Or maybe the Catholic church can kick in some of the trillions they have laying around.

So perhaps we should prohibit smokes, eh? We all know how well that works with "recreational drugs". Or how about this...my favorite...we raise the tax so high that everyone DOES quit smoking. Then, hee hee,.........
the government has to butt-rape the NON smokers to make up the billions of dollars in tax revenue that will be lost!!!!!
Your characterization of smokers as helpless addicts reeks of nannyism and is quite without basis, unless you are a salesman for a pharmaceutical company trying to get rich off of "nicotine replacement" therapies.
BTW, I live in a "Blue State" but am quite Libertarian, and resent the hell out of both the pablum-puking liberal democrat social engineers and the corporate-profit-before-all-else repuglicans.
How about we just stop making smokers, or drinkers, or fast-food enthusiasts the scapegoats for the latest tax-and-spend "for their own good" routine.
As far as smokers stealing to support their "habit" maybe it would be only fair, since the government has been stealing from us in the form of "sin taxes" for far too long now.

BTW, if you are a smoker, you need cancer insurance, I have a policy from Monumental that pays if you are diagnosed with any type of cancer related to smoking or not, you don't have to be dead to collect.
My wife has quit for 5 months now,I smoke outside the house and to tell you the truth I have cut back to a pack a day, if not less, sure would love to get my hands on some of them Cuban cigars.
So I'll have another Winston,a shot of Jack Daniels and chase it with a Sam Adams, man life is good and I don't need no stinking legislator telling me how to live my life...

Actually, Cubans are a bit over-rated. They are a good cigar and smoke well, but some of the really great cigars coming out of the Dominican and Nicaragua these days rival the best Cuban for taste and quality. And they are legal.
Which reminds me, I have not had a cigar for a few weeks now. Need to get in a couple before it gets too cold up here.
All things in moderation.

Frankly I don;t think taxes should be raised on smokes to pay for kids health insurance. There are other ways to pay for it like making sure the rich pay their share of taxes. Secondly we should legalize all drugs. I should have just asd much legal right to buy and take a shot of dope as someone else has to buy a shot of liquor or buy a smoke. I'm sick of this illegal drug crap and this taxing og "vices" nonsense. Oh, gambling and prostitution should be legalized to. Enough of the nanny government telling me how to live.
Meanwhile you have people making more money per year than they can spend in 100 lifetimes. At the same time kids go without health care. That is obscene.
Oh, lets legalize Cuban cigars too.

How low can the FM go? I'm sure he'll find ways to get even worse as his last days approach.
Worse yet, Bush has already underfunded this program, which was conveniently not reported in that Liberal MSM:
He'll cut and he'll cut and he'll blow your program down! (http://mediamatters.org/items/200709210015)

He doesn't care about kids growing up healthy. Children of the wealthiest families will always have the best health care. Kids from poorer familes, why not just let them die ? Thats the way this administration operates.

I agree. Except I believe it is the way the whole Republican/Conservative Party operates. If you bring up health insurance, you're an "@$$hole." "God get a job with health insurance." I suppose we can go back to the days of sweatshops and have 4 year olds work.
But by golly they're good Christians, God fearing people who are strong on 'family values.' Seems they fail to mention it's the Manson Family they mean.
