Torbay Tower

[VO1GXG]

My friend Charlie VO1VZ came down today with a Torbay tower a top his car . its about 22' tall . i put my double zepp on top and it works nice .

Now. What is a Torbay tower you ask ? . Charlie came up with the name a few years ago when he needed to put his antenna up but could not afford a steel tower . He went into the woods and cut down a 20' birch tree , he shaved it and set it in concert . has been there for 15 years . he cuts these trees down and gives them to hams who wants them . They are all over the place in Newfoundland .

You didn't explain why a 20 foot high tree is called a Torbay. Why Torbay, what is the relevance of a name like Torbay to a tree?

When Charlie put it up one of his ham friends called it a Torbay tower , i guess because its kind of redneckish
