I really liked last Sunday's SKCC event. It fit my style just perfect. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea.

It was CW.
It was at a slower pace.
Many ops were sending at a relatively slow speed.
There was more than just the minimum required exchange.
The exchange has more than the usual signal report/sequential number.
There was a little bit of chit chat in the contacts (Tu and good luck, 73, or TNX for the contact, etc. etc.)

I was glad I had an SKCC number that day. Great CW event for me.

You can't beat the price of membership either!

They are fun! You know the great part? Nobody's figured out how to get a computer to operate a straight key!

Well, Rube Goldberg maybe. Bit not the average Ham!

I made a few contacts....it had been so long since the previous event, I forgot my SKCC number! But it was a good 'scuse to polish up the ol' Skillman Deluxe.

Great bunch of guys. It's a good motivation for me to keep breaking out the straight key. And some of them just make CW sound like music. When you have a great OT with a good sending fist, the sound of him on a straight key or bug is something to hear.

SKCC ( Straight Key Century Club) is loads of Fun. There are ops that operate anywhere from 3 or 4 words per minute all the way up from there.
The Membership is free and it's all about using Mechanical keys and CW. There are over 3400 members and growing by the day.
There are many different awards to earn and many friends to meet along the way.
Stop by and give it a try. You will not regret it!

Don't forget that there are more events coming up.

Straight Key Night on the first day of each month. Starts tonight 8:00 pm EST (0000 UTC Saturday, Sept. 1st). This is a 24 hour "just get on the air" event. Something like the ARRL Straight Key Night.

Straight Key Sprint in a couple weeks. It always the second Wednesday of the month 0000Z to 0200Z. Next one is on the 12th. That would be Tuesday the 11th local to the US.

The Weekend Sprint-a-thon, I believe is on the 23rd of Sept. This is a 24 hour event. Some months have themes, but not in Sept. Look out for the October "Craftsman Special" Sprint-a-thon on the 28th. Build your own key and get some bonus points.

The SKCC is a fine group of ladies and gentlemen that are having fun with CW. The group does some great events and provides some great services. There are awards, contests, a sked network, code help, advice, and a QSL bureau.

Since I brought it up, I hope that you all take advantage of the QSL bureau. Info on the bureau is at http://www.skccgroup.com/qsl.htm . This service is provided to all for only the cost of the stamps.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about using the SKCC Buro.

What a wonderful key to use and look at.

Your XYL will make you smile if she lets you get it or better yet, buys it for you!
