I recently purchased this BRAND NEW, in the box, never before been opened switching power supply from my local H.R.O. store.

When I got the Alinco power supply home, I took it out of the box and removed the "unopened" plastic wrap that was around the box. As I was examining the power supply box, I noticed that on the rear panel it is imprinted with, "8A" next to the fuse holder.

Well, to my shock, I opened the fuse and saw that it was a 15 Amp fuse instead of an 8A fuse. I checked the spec's on the instructions and it too says it must be an 8 amp fuse.

So, I went back to H.R.O. and asked the manager if I could see the other Alinco power supply fuses. All of the rest of the Alincos except one other one were 8amp. The other power supply also had the incorrect 15amp fuse just like mine did.

I think anyone who owns an Alinco power supply or radio should immediately check their equipment for the right fuse, in order to avoid any electrical damage.

This is very poor quality control with Alinco.

Hmm. I guess someone accidentally put some 15 amp fuses in the 8 amp parts bin and nobody looks at the markings when they plug them in.

I'd suggest dropping Alinco an email to inform them of the mistake. They may not be aware of it. I'm sure they'd rather fix it, than to have someone sue them later for a house fire because a fuse didn't blow when it should have.

I'm very satisfied with my power supply. While putting a wrong fuse in shouldn't happen, I wouldn't condemn an otherwise quality product for one mistake.

I agree, I'm not going to condem Alinco for a great product. What I am going to chastise them for is crap quality control! Can you imagine had a HF rig worth thousands of dollars became damaged due to a mistake from Alinco? Specifically a big mistake by them putting in the wrong size fuse at the factory?

I love Alinco products, I own two of them. But, from now on, I'm always visually checking the fuse in any radio product equipment I purchase.

I had a similar problem with my Alinco power supply. I called the factory and they basically ignored my concern that I brought up to them.

All in all, I think they make a fine product, but you just have to double check their quality control on some things.

Well, speaking to Alinco quality control, I not sure it's as good as it could be. I've owned lots of radios both new and used and only had 2 failures, both radios were new and both were Alincos. One died 2 months out of warranty and the second 2 months inside of warranty. The second radio is at their authorized repair center in Texas as I write this. I'll see how their work, and turn around time is I guess. The service center does not even have a web page as far as I can see. Nothing comes up on Google. cheers.

Update:The authorized service center does have a web page (http://www.hamdistributors.com/) and was very quick with the repair and turn around time, 7 days total with 4 of those day transportation time. I still question Alinco quality / quality control though.

I checked mine to make sure what was in it. Mine does have an 8A fuse in it.

Mine has the 8 also ... thanks for the info.
