Czech 505 kHz beacon now active - reports welcome

There is now a new Czech beacon active on 505.060 kHz.

Lubos, OK2BVG provides the following information.

Thanks to Czech Telecommunication Office (CTO), particularly Department of Frequency Spectrum Management and the director of this office, I have obtained permission for the beacon OK0EMW experimental operation:

Frequency: 505.060kHz
Power: 1W ERP max
Location: Breclav, JN88KS
Mode: CW 6WPM / QRSS3
Text: Identification 'Beacon OK0EMW JN88KS' #in regular CW at 6WPM is followed by 2x CALL and QRA locator in QRSS3.

Transmitter: DDS VFO (home made) + PA DEBEG 7121 with reduced power
Aerial: Inverted-L with 23m vertical and 102m horizontal sections

The results of ERP field-measurements (2180m from the aerial) is 0.95W ERP

All reports, snapshots and informations about signal are welcome!

Should make for some interesting listening when the fall and winter come and the static goes away!

Please tell me why this is needed.
There are thousands of broadcast stations "beaconing" above and below 500kHz. I think we can tell when the band is open.

REALLY!
Why clutter up the airwaves?

Maybe OK2BVG likes getting QSL cards?

There are many people who might ask the same question of amateur radio in general.

To build and optimize a low-power compromise-antenna MW system that can be heard over 1000-2000 miles by hams and SWLs with nominal equipment is a very nice technical accomplishment. #You of all people should know that. #One of these days, I may set up a beacon of my own using one of those new-fangled digital modes, just for my personal edification.

Maybe these hams want a challenge, even if it isn't up to your modern standards. #Maybe these hams like to have fun with things in which you are not interested. #Maybe these hams don't like to experiment with gear that looks like a cell phone yet doesn't work as well as a cell phone.

1st two comments are pretty narrow minded. How many such stations are sending from the Czech Republic?

what's a pitty to read such comments. you probably have missed something when you have decided to pass your license exam.

By the way broadcasting station are not always a good indicator of the propagation status. Painfull to see more and more hams that destroy the passion and efforts of others.

I just say congratulation to this czech station for the nice project and for putting Czech republic on the air with this beacon nad for some other stop to spend money into your expensive sinojapano... nanoelectrotransceiver, you will spend less moneyand have more fun on MSN, IRC, etc
