Griffin died of prostate cancer, according to a statement from his the family that was released by Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment.

RIP. He came up with Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, made enemies with the networks for having anti-war guest during Vietnam, and gave a lot of his time, money and property to charity.
First Mike Douglas, now Merv Griffin! The entertainment world is losing the true gentlemen of the industry.

Never heard that one. If he was it was well closeted since he was married with children. Might have been, though.
