And to eliminate technical problems, suppose we were all running "legal limit" with great antennas, so our rigs weren't a consideration. We all have optimum stations.

Could the great exchanges we have even happen over the air? Would we grant each other the thought and respect we do here? Would we wait our turns to talk, and talk with the courtesy and respect we display here?

Would other stations grant us our right, and privilege to carry out our discussions without harassment?

What fun would that be? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Full legal limit + log periodic antenna + 14.275 MHz = Ham CB.

I wish some of these topics would be discussed over the air. But many of us are familiar with what happens on 3950, which I think is a shame, even though I disagree with a lot of what is said on that "net".

Besides, too many hams on HF SSB need the time to talk about the last time the ricebox was sent back to the factory to replace the blown a.c. power fuse, what the weather is like, medications and the results of the most recent colonoscopy.

As I said in another thread, I have not heard a single operator talk about his "medications and the results of the most recent colonoscopy." Of course, I am too busy sending and receiving pictures, working on my CW and/or digital techniques, etc. to be listening to SSB ( I assume you ARE talking about SSB qsos now, aren't you ? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif )

73, and I hope your colonoscopy results were benign ! Jim

You probably haven't listened a whole lot to 20m SSB during the daytime. Maybe somewhat of an exaggeration, but I do hear quite a bit of discussion of infirmities over the air on all the HF phone bands. Probably as a direct result of the ageing amateur radio population, that has become a topic of common interest amongst many hams.

However, not too much of that topic is discussed during the AM QSO's I hear, even with Ashtabula Bill and some of the other octogenarians who regularly inhabit the airwaves.
