This morning, we were paged out for some severe weather. #I was standing in the fire station watching the rain blowing off my truck and I thought that it would make a cool picture. #I grabbed the camera out of 1302, the mini pumper, and thought I'd use kind of a long exposure time to try to get a sense of motion with the rain. #Not the best picture, but this is what I got:

Just thought I'd share.

I heard about your weather this morning. NE Iowa in places got the same thing. They were talking about cloud to ground lightning, and from your picture, they weren't kidding. Cool!

We're getting whacked again at the moment. Town North of me just blew the tornado siren and now they're reporting power outages.

That explains my 20 over 9 noise level here on 80 meters at the moment. Good luck with the storms. I hope they miss you.

No doubt. I just came back from LaCrosse, and the lightning show was amazing. Nothing cloud to ground, but cloud to cloud and just huge.

No meteor shower for you tonight! Oh well, unplug your antennas, sit back and enjoy the fireworks. They sound rather intense here.

I love lightning... as long as it does not hit my station http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I stand corrected. The meteor shower is tomorrow night.
Enjoy the light show tonight.

Cool lightning pic!

We had 1" hail in Muskegon, Michigan last night. #I will put a pic up as soon as I take one and get it uploaded to P-Bucky. #(I got a couple pieces off the deck and put them in the freezer!)

Oddly enough, my SAME radio, which usually goes off at the least hint of a storm, remained quiet throughout the night. #The hail crashing into our glass skylights woke me up. #To my knowledge there were no warnings for this storm, by far the most severe we have had this season.

I woke up this morning to a beautiful sunny 72 degree morning. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif # The sidewalk and drive were dry, almost like it never happened. #I had to go look in the freezer for the hail to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Then, you could live in Colorado. Nothing exciting ever goes on here, including me.

Tornado sirens blowing is just "another spring day" here in Oklahoma. We hold the record for having the most tornadoes on the ground in one day. We had 98 confirmed tornadoes on the ground across the state back in May of '99.

We can't stop severe weather, but we can always hope that the damage they cause is minimal and that NO ONE gets hurt or killed.

Life is fragile. Handle with prayer.

Could be the beginning of the end of the world as we know it ! They had that TV documentary on again this morning which tells us about the vast underground magma which is boiling away under Yellowstone National Park. If that lot blows, aint no use runnin' up them thar hills. Just say a few quick Hail Mary's, or whatever 'cos yer times up !

Now that's what I call severe weather !

We just got paged again. #I'm not moving until I'm done with my coffee. We're supposed to get whacked again in about 15 minutes. NWS Radar Loop (http://radar.weather.gov/radar_lite.php?rid=arx&product=NCR&loop=yes)

Dang!!!!

We are supposed to get that weather down here. Will trade you the 100+ degree temps for the rain and lightning (you keep the tornados).

DEAL?

If at all possible, check the temp when the tornado warnings are called. As strange as it might sound, and go with me on this. Many years ago, I called on a Doctor that tracked the Worlds weather since WW2. He told me that the perfect temp for a tornado is 73 degrees. Since he told me that, I have noticed the temp when we have tornados here. 73 degrees. So far, he is correct.

Cool shot. #Maybe the next time we get some real rain around here - God knows when that will be - I'll try setting the camera on the tripod and doing some long exposures [my camera will go up to a 4-second exposure] to see if I can catch some lightning.

My camera will also do interval shots, so I could just set it to take a long exposure every 'x' seconds, unattended. #I might get lucky. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

One of the departments to the North has now tripped it's siren 4 times. High winds and lots of rain according to the radio traffic. Temps are 80 degrees. Starting to get a good lightning show and the wind has picked up a bit, measured at 12, gusting to 16, but I expect that will increase in the next half hour. I hope this has all blown past by midnight so I can go home and get some sleep.

If the RADAR Loop is current, I would be more worried about the one coming out of MN. Looks like Eau Claire and South are going to get pounded.

Beautiful country up there. I used to love to go shopping at Menards in Eau Claire. Don't travel up there any more, I do miss it.

I wondered what was going on on the ground. Flying out to ca today, there were cells up to 40,000', and lots of them. Sure looks different from up there!

Severe weather is great until it does major damage.

Wow, you sure are doing a lot of cross country shuttling these days. You must know every inch of that path with your eyes closed by now.

I love severe weather. #Everyone who knows me well knows I love extremes. Hot summer and cold winter. I actually become jealous when people tell me they had severe thunderstorms and they miss my area completely. I hate mild weather.

I'm a severe weather-lover, too; the more dramatic, the better...as long as it doesn't affect my house. :S

We live in a rain/snow shadow between mountain passes so all the dramatic weather goes around us. Rats!

Someone once told me that there a little berg in Australia where it's the lightning and thunder capital of the world. Any of you guys know about it? Maybe I'll take a well-earned vacation there, plant a lounge chair on the beach, have a daiquiri in hand, and take in the drama!

Round two just passed and pounded us. Set the fire alarm off at the high school. That happens every time the power flickers off momentarily. I happened to catch when the lights went off when the light from the alarm clock blinked off and then on again so I got up and put my socks on...sure enough the pager went off. Heavy flooding in the streets. So much water going down the hill to the FD that I put the truck in 4wd just for a little extra traction and control. Water at the intersection by the school was up to the running boards on the mini. Blah.

I live close to a Menards, and I love to wander about looking at all the toys. I call it ManLand. If you can't buy it at Menards, you don't need it.
