Bermuda Hundred, Virginia. Self-supported signal tower on left of the line near the Appomattox River. Signal towers were used to transmit coded messages, used flags by day and torches by night.
Looks to be 125-150 ft. tall, and would stand a pretty good wind load.
I see similar ones to-day, used for fire observations.
