After having not lived in 8 land for 16 years, I thought it was time to retire my present call, N8LXR, and apply for a vanity call.

I have chosen WU3U.

What do you think of this call?

To me, it is kind of unique with the 2 "Us" and it seems to come off the toungue on voice: "Whiskey Uniform Three Uniform."

On CW, it seems OK to me too.

What you think?

Tim,

Don't remember if I have worked you, but I too run mobile CW, with the FT100D.

However, YOU have one fantastic set up !

As for WU3U, it has a GREAT CW rythm !!

I haven't ever wished for a vanity call, however if I ever did, I would apply for WØOPI (WØNK is already taken {DRAT!}).

Whatever floats your boat. One call is as good as any other to me. If you like it then go for it.

Why does it matter what anyone else thinks about your vanity call?

After all, you are the one paying for it.

Woo Woo! (Or is that YouO YOUOOO?

Whatever. If you feel the need or desire, go for it. Since the vanity call system went into defect (OOPS! I mean effect) it doesn't really matter, and a callsign no longer signifies anything.

No insult meant. It's now just like auto vanity plates. It's more of a personality reflection than a reflection on anything else. Might as well get what you want and will feel comfortable with. (After 40 years, I couldn't feel comfortable with another call... And I KNOW mine is original, bacause in ALL honesty, who would pick MINE if they had a choice? ) [But if I wanted, I know a really nice 1x3 W9 call that I COULD get, but for personal reasons, I don't feel I deserve the honor...]

Choose a vanity call if you wish to do so, but do so wisely.
Good luck.

P.S. There's nothing wrong with your call. Others may think differently, but 2x1 calls always seem a bit awkward on my end, but YMMV. I've never considered a vanity call, but if the FCC REQUIRED a call change to reflect call district, living in California, I might consider a vanity call if forced to change. Otherwise, I prefer to keep my FCC issued, misbegotten call that I have now. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I recently applied (and received) a vanity call of NI3B. I was immediately attracted to it because Ni3B is the symbol for Nickel Boride....an irritant....much like myself http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I sometimes wish I would have kept the "Vanity" Extra Call Sign the FCC granted me without an application!

My original Extra call was AB1FU.
If you say it : Alpha Bravo One Fox Uniform, it sounds cool.
But just to say the letters alone might bring up some insulting attention. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I like it, especially for CW. Nothing beats the one ham I worked years ago on CW, his call was NE5E which is awesome on CW.
