FINALLY, I earned my Extra upgrade today. I was thinking about changing to a 1 X 2 vanity call for the 4th region, but not many left.

I guess studying really does pay off.

Congratulations!! I say go for the new call. My call is a vanity that my 13 year old son picked out for me. He did all the paperwork and paid for it. It was his gift for my passing the extra. I bought him a dual bander for passing his tech and he got me a new call for passing my extra. Now if a 13 year old can secure a great 1x2 in 6 land then anyone should be able to. Not only did he get the 1x2 but the exact one he really wanted for me.

By the way
I hope you have a fire retardant suit

Congrats!!, I just passed my Extra about 1 month ago and I love it. I let the FCC pick a call for me and I really like it. AF6DE, has a nice ring to it, kind of like the Question mark in CW ..--.., ..--..

Congratulations.

Some will try to pee on your parade, saying you don't deserve a 1x2.

They'll cite no code or reduced code, or lack of experience.

I say ignore them. The no code thing is a done deal, despite our best efforts to save a longstanding tradition in the hobby.

Enjoy your new privileges and I hope you get a callsign you like.

It was my way of warning you in advance.

N2RJ pretty much hit the nail on the head. there are those here who would say that new hams don't deserve a 1x2 or 2x1 calls. Take a look at some of the threads, I think there is one called "new age ops with old age calls" or something like that. Its all just a bunch of horse hockey.. the warning might have been unneeded, it looks as though most of the more vocal agitators have cooled it off a bit..

No was never sick. I hurt my back Kite boarding. Kinda dumb since I had just finished recovering from a spinnaker flying mishap.
I know your just a pup and probably never heard of it so here is a link for you
Spinnaker Flying (http://sammoore.org/archives/000392.php)

I'm very active for my age. On our last trip to Mexico most of my crew was in their 20's and 30's and they just could not keep up with this old man, What a bunch of baby's they finally got a break when I hurt my back. Anyhow your not planing on starting more crap are, your half my age I doubt you have enough money to make it worth my time and I sure would hate to embarrass you by flying down there and putting your happy butt in its place http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I remember seeing that in a movie. There is another name for it--Jigging for Jaws. But it sure looks like fun!

What movie ??

Your right Spinnaker flying is a blast!
We have a 45 footer, Normally we keep her in northern California but right now she's down in Mexico. It ain't really spinnaker flying unless it's on a big boat... You rocket from the water line to 60 feet in about 1 second! Great for getting girls neked and making them scream like baby's! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

It's really not the same on a smaller boat. My only advice to people who have never done it before is don't be shy http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif The lift from a 45 foot sailboats spinnaker is so strong that you will most likely lose your swim suit http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif In fact that's how I hurt my back. The wind was a bit to strong to be spinnaker flying. My crew "bunch of baby's" were to chicken so I went first. Well everything went fine until my third trip up, The launch was so hard and so dam fast that I hurt my back.. then two weeks later I went kite boarding and hurt it again.

My Dr. keeps telling me I'm to old for this stuff and that I should act my age. Shezzz, act my age? I am! I told him the same thing this time I told him last time I hurt my back (Sailboarding in Greece) .. "I refuse to grow up"

In Jaws-II, there's a brief scene. Shown from underwater, looking up. You see the boatswain's chair splash down, and the legs attached. And just as the music reaches the crescendo, and the legs and attached @$$ are about to be bitten, there is a puff, and the bait is snapped away. Then it switches to a surface shot, and you see the spinaker, the passenger and the sailboat, and you hear the "Wahoos!" as the passenger lifts.

I gave up on even rollercoasters 18 years ago, because the Magnum (Cedar Point), when it was new, kicked my butt--literally.

There's a segment where the seat drops out from under you, and before you can settle back into the seat, it shoots forward. The effect was like a kick. At the time, I swore I was going to go back and kick its butt. But osteo-arthritis had other plans for me.

So, I don't think I'll be doing any spinaker flying.

But I have invented the sport of wheelchair windsurfing. I get up on the highest open deck of a cruise ship on a windy day. Other passengers don't seem to like weather decks when there's actual weather. So I clear the deck of chairs, etc. Then I sit upwind, and use my jacket as a sail. Puff this!!

Congratulations! It's worth having the Extra just for those little slivers at the bottom of the CW bands...even without a fancy callsign....though that's cool too!

When I got my Extra back in 77....(That's NINEteen seventy seven, wise guys!)....I felt an odd sort of letdown...because I knew there were no more tests to take. Never again would I see the old hag in the L.A. FCC office, nor hear the screams from the adjacent room, from those who failed their CW test. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Congratulations!

Only problem is, prepare for being hacked on for wanting a vanity call sign (see whiner threads) and for being a No Code Extra (see whiner threads).

If you can overlook the adolescent attitude of the FEW then they wont steal your thunder! HA HA!

Congrats, Im still studying to get my Extra. You give me some inspiration!

FB on making the upgrade!

There are cool 1 x 3 calls to be has as well. #Don't forget about the 2 x2s either. #

Check out this site to help you choose a call sign that you want to keep for the duration.Vanity HQ (http://www.vanityhq.com)

I used the site to shop for mine and my daughter's. Her nickname is Coley (for Nicole) and her call is K0LEY.

Have fun and good luck!
