Surprisingly, it goes back even further than that. In the figures at the US Census Bureau, the first real deficit was in 1986. Things have spiralled upwards from then...

So, since 1986... that would include Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush. 75% Republican, but it's Clinton's fault? I think it's easiest just to blame Nixon. Really it's the American consumer that insists on the absolute cheapest products, no matter how shoddily made and corporations that insist on maximum profits, no matter the human cost.
