I could never understand why people who don't like big government get ham licenses. Why submit to a nanny who is going to tell you how and when to use the airwaves that belong to we the people.
Buy (or better yet build) a rig, get on the air without a license, state your name and call CQ for other like minded Americans who wish to communicate over the airwaves. Why do we need a nanny to tell us how and when we can operate ?
Last time I checked, it's still done on 3.455 and 6.955MHz. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Sigh. I see you are still a huckster for omnipotent government. Do you really think Mussolini's trains ran on time?

Well, If I hated big government I would never get a ham license. Why do I need the government playing nanny telling me I have to prove to them I am competant enough to use a radio and then wait for them to grant me permission and an id number ? I was smart enough to educate myself and learn about radio, how it operates, how to build and repair and use them properly. I was resourceful enough to aquire the means to obtain a radio.
That should be more than enough to allow me to use the public airwaves using my NAME to identify myself, not some call numbers issued by Nanny.
And if I were to misbehave over the air then it is up to the American people to come and remove me from the airwaves, not complain to Nanny Government to get Nanny FCC to get after me and remove me for them.
Burn those licenses. Use the name given to you at birth, not some nanny sanctioned call letters (government id).

But those call sign letters assigned to me by my nanny government sound so cool and official.
I guess I could go back to the 26-27.99mhz free band.

Because unlike your "all or nothing" attitude seen here, some of us think that a government can run in a mostly hands off method, with minimal regulation. It is not non government or pure socialism as you would seem to imply.
In fact, the amateur service is a great example of how government should work. Is it perfect? No, but better than many systems.
We get say in what the rules are. We get to have our comments heard on proposed rules and changes. Anyone can propose a change. We may not get our way, but we do get our say.
We handle our own license testing instead of depending on government employees. We even make up our own question pools for the tests.
Enforcement action starts with self policing, and then only if an issue cannot be handled does the governmnet step in. Items like repeater coordination are handled by private groups within the hobby.
And it is all done in a self supporting fashion, with proceeds from vanity calls covering most of the regulatory fees, fees for VEC's (if they charge at all) covering testing expenses, and the rest of the money coming from fines from those who fail to follow the rules.
A perfect system? No. Better than a heavy handed government involved at every single step method.... hell yes.

The amateur frequencies don't belong to any one nation, they are available to all around the world.
Just stop and think what the situation would be like if there were no national regulations on their use. Everybody in the States is complaining all the time about band useage, we don't have this problem in Europe so perhaps if the same rules applied everywhere this would solve at least some of the problems.

N2IZE wanted to use ham radio as an example of why we should all support big government because he knows I believe in the property ownership of airwaves and that it is a difficult concept to teach from scratch.
