Al Gore's son arrested for speeding and drug possession (http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/07/04/gore.son.arrest.ap/index.html)

My point exactly. Bill Clinton considers a family reunion a great place to pick up women!

He COULD be the product of an illicit rendevous between Bill and Tipper! That, upon reflection, is more plausable.

My original post must be the Oxycontin talking...and YES, I have a prescription!

OK, maybe he hasn't seen the Austrailan ad linked to in another thread on here...
Seriously PEQ, with all due respect, we shouldn't make jokes about someone's family like that. He actually looks a lot like Al to me...
At least he seems to be practicing what Pop preaches, isn't that Prius a hybrid? It may not be as efficient at 100mph as it is at 65mph though.
Anyway, as far as the drugs go, I do not have a problem with one useing drugs as long as they are not driving under the influence....

And I still don't think it's right to hold a politician, or anyone else for that matter, responsible for the actions of family members. Bush's daughters, Gore's son, they are not responsible for what their fathers do, and their fathers aren't responsible for their adult behavior. I've never thought it was right to attack family members.

I am damn sure not responsible for my what my relatives do...

Let's be fair.

1) He should be arraigned and prosecuted.
2) If found guilty. He should serve time/pay fines/etc...
3) Should he have a cell next to noted Oxy abusers...sure, in the eyes of the law we are all "equal". But you have to convict the Oxy abuser first...and his Dr. too while you are at it.
4) Bonus points for the Prius, at least he wasn't like John Kerry claiming that the SUVs were owned by the family and thus he was due some type of exemption.
5) Double bonus points for getting caught the same weekend as your Dad's big public event. Puts a real turd in that punch bowl.

--

Now let reality set it. It isn't a Republican/Democrat thing. This will turn out to be a rich and powerful thing.

1) Dad was VP for 8 years.
2) Dad enjoys a very high profile now.
3) Immediate family is worth over $100 million.
4) Dad can pick up the phone and make things happen.
5) Dad's old boss can pick up the phone and make things happen.

The wild card is public reaction. Paris Hilton, Marc Rich, Scooter Libby all got preferential treatment. Now will Al Gore III get it? If it turns into a haves vs. have nots, he could lose out. If it stays quite, he will be home and keeping it low key for a while. Right wing radio is going to have a field day today with this one...as they should. The press targeted the Bush twins when caught for underage drinking (as they should -- you break the law...too damn bad), will they do the same for AG3? Rush, Sean, et al. will be watching the press to see if they are giving AG3 the same due as Barbra and Jenna B. The press will be watching Rush, Sean, et al. to see if they will pile on AG3...and you know they will.

Another slice of the American dream in action....

I go along with that one don't matter if one has a high opinion or a low opinion of him. Can't be putting everyone away for infractions or just cause you don't like his daddy. Perhaps he should lose his license for a long/short period which is pretty much the standard for the rest of us.

Ah yes let me add this for the inverted types I know people who have been in jail for drinking and driving coupled with many other infractions. Habitual offenders eventually need to be dealt with but can anyone determine if this kid is habitual in legalistic respects.

Not a thing if you like science fiction or fairy tales. But even by those standards, his stuff is poorly written and rife with errors. Besides that, Mr. Environment Al Gore tells us to downsize and economize while he has a home that consumes enough energy to power a small shopping center. I loathe such two-faced behavior.

I really think what ADULT kids of politicians do should be a non-issue.

I do, however, think it should become a huge issue when/if that politician attempts to use his or her power or position to get preferential treatment for thier kids.

The kids messing up is just life. It happens.

But the parents using position to get them off would be abuse of power and public trust.

He probably gets off with a 6 or 12 month probation. Maybe they do a Paris Hilton knock off as far as sentencing is concerned. Maybe daddy takes away his car and gives him a Honda scooter that gets 65 MPG.

I also did not know that a Prius could do 100 MPH. It would need to be running on the gasoline engine to approach that speed as the electric motor is used for starting from a stop and not for cruising.
I wonder how many MPG it was getting at 100MPH. Certainly about the same or less as an SUV cruising around town.

It could be that Al Junior got tired of sluggish performance and had someone put in a high performance 4 or 6 cylinder gas engine so he could masquerade as a environmentalist and a friend of earth with no one the wiser. Wait a minute, I think this is what his daddy does with all of his mansions, jet travel and big cars and SUV's.

I remember the story of Lyndon Johnson when he was either VP or the Pres being picked up by a Texas Ranger while he was doing 110. It was pretty embarrassing when Lady Bird found out. It took a gutsy Ranger to pull him over.

Always remember that the Rich and Powerful are not like you and I.

I do, however, think it should become a huge issue when/if that politician attempts to use his or her power or position to get preferential treatment for thier kids.

The kids messing up is just life. It happens.

But the parents using position to get them off would be abuse of power and public trust.
Really? #And all this stuff going on regarding getting a Cheney staffer off isn't?
If you look back, I have always said if Libby lied under oath, he should do the time.

In fact I have said ALL perjury should be treated that way. the law makes no allowance for what the perjury is about.

That said, I am no more, or less, mad about those than I was about the ones Clinton did.... especially the ones that Hillarys brother was paid big money to lobby him for. I would rather a decision for a pardon of commuted sentance be based upon an idea that the investigation was flawed, instead of hundreds of thousnads paid to a family member...especially if both were for perjury.

So yes, in some ways it was/is abuse. In some ways it is using the office just like other recent holders of it have.

They have all abused that power.

I am sure they will all punish each other far worse than anything the current justice system could come up with.
Teddy and Rush in the same cell would make for interesting semi-reality TV.
You got it!!!
Next season of Big Brother...
I would like to see Mark Levin and Hillary Rodham thrown in the mix too though...
Mark Levin is a big mouth bully. How on earth can he be a big brother?

Or do you mean "big brother" in the 1984 context? I hope you're not Muslim, Mark won't like you.
