There is a new web resource online for amateur discussions. HamTechTalk just launched this week. It is a full-featured site with news, propagation reports, articles (as they are added), comments, a full forum (quite feature rich), personal profile pages, a classified system, and soon a products review section. The URL is:

I have been working on this for a couple months now, to give an alternative to the often contentious discussions that happen in several sites forums. Check it out and see what you think. Features will be added regularly.

And HOW will you accomplish this laudable goal? Who will be the arbitrator and what guidelines will this person(s) use? In my opinion, you are either open or closed to personal opinion.

right decision was made in eliminating the requirement of code to obtain a license.
#Give it up folks.. it's done already. #

Well, I signed up and will check back soon to see how things develop. Any effort along these lines is good.

Dennis, the forum is moderated in several ways. First and foremost, users have the ability to report abusive posts. Read the rather extensive Terms of Service (no one usually bothers) agreement that users are bound to when registering.
There is a progressive system for obvious trolling, flame baiting, and those who overrun boards. Ranging from warnings to post approval by moderators, to outright termination. While this may sound harsh, a wide range of opinion is healthy for any group. Those who routinely overrun a group and attack other posters ad hominem is not. This is the difference that I speak of. Debate the issue, not attack the poster.
The interesting thing about this is for many groups where such behavior is not controlled, it boils down to a small handful of group members. I belong to several groups that have 15-20K registered members. The mechanisms I spoke of are used to maintain a reasonably civil environment that fosters hundreds of posts every day with a tremendous exchange of information. As an example, let me refer you to apug.org (http://www.apug.org).
This is a brand new site, and a lot of experimentation is underway. Site content which is being developed is going to be presented in a "magazine" type format--an approach that is more consistant with information resource delivery using forums, etcetera, as an adjunct. It is not the intent of HamTechTalk to become or replace eHam or QRZ. God forbid...but to provide an alternative for a smaller group of interested parties to exchange information and publish their technical writing to a wider audience than what may be had with a simple personal webpage.
Give us a bit guys before naysaying and doom and gloom predictions http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
