This sounds like something out the movie View To A Kill.
Ok Egg Heads explain this one.
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- A five-acre glacial lake in Chile's southern Andes has disappeared -- and scientists want to know why.
Park rangers at Bernardo O'Higgins National Park said they found a 100-feet-deep crater in late May were the lake had been in March. Several large pieces of ice that used to float atop the water also were spotted.
"The lake had simply disappeared," Juan Jose Romero, head of Chile's National Forest Service in the southernmost region of Magallanes, said Wednesday. "No one knows what happened."

Let me see, it's been 2 months since anyone looked at this lake? Must be pretty remote.
Probably just dried up.

This is freaky. Maybe the aliens from the movie 'V' are for real and have invaded. Have you thought of that??

Don't you all care that tons-o-fish are now with out homes? And that lots of animals will be thirsty while you are having a cold one?
Think about this people.
Look at the science behind this, what could have oe who could have done it and why. Could the Lord be sending us a message? Could a UFO have landed and sucked up all the water? Could the water have gone into making beer or could it have been used in local toilets?
We need answers.

If this happens to the Pacific Ocean, there will be one hell of a land grab.

The most likely explanation is that cracks opened in the lake bottom allowing the water to drain into subterranian chambers. The locals looking into this discount that because they claim there was no recent seismic activity in the area. However, they have not told us what the underlying strata is made of. If sandstone, limestone or shale, slow water seepage through small cracks could have led to a sudden enlargement by erosion into cracks large enough to drain the lake rapidly.

Not at all... I'm sure many of them will wander into nearby towns or cities, where they should be able to find water. As long as they're not colander-catapaulted back to the dry lake area, they should be fine. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yup. #That would be a brilliant move on the part of "the Lord". #Pick a remote location that won't be discovered for a couple of months to use to "send a message".

From a conservative stantpoint I think it is wonderful that those animals will slowly die from thirst and starvation. I think we should head down there with a conservative party so we can have the thrill of watching those rotten little suckers die. Then we should deliberately dry up more lakes so more of them die. As a compassionate conservative republican christian I hate lakes, small animals and the environment. I love pollution, war, and corrupt politicians.

As a true Conservative:
- I love my God, my family, and my Country
- I believe in a limited federal government -- with states and local governments accountable for the vast majority of pertinent issues
- I love our wilds and the environment -- especially here in Alaska -- its why I live here
- I believe in being a good steward of our lands, attending to the resources above and below ground through managed care -- not those extreme environmentalist wacko positions that lock up land and resources -- against God's desire for us to actively manage his gifts
This being the case, what does a lake in southern hemisphere have to do with the average U.S. citizen? My answer: nothing at all. Other ideas are just pure speculation.
Or...
