I am kinda like to talk to those who are dissatisfied with their present job. #No Gimmiks, and there is a Demand for Electronics People going back to school and learing stuff I have found it rather a challenge and fun.

I am now trying for a better paying position looking over companies that pay is great ( better than a $min wage job any day ) plus better respect from people.

This is to the Elected officials really people should look into being encouraged and as well open up more financal Grants to motovate people into better paying jobs. I have heard the demand for Techs Nursing Engineers well I also heard the Negative crowd saying wealfare pays better . Yeah Right, EXIT is down to Door No. 13 #and watch the flames please .

So my opinion is it can happen if you want it to, just like getting your license. you already got an idea why not convert it to learning a new career that pays well.

Depends on what aspect of electronics you are speaking . . .

IT types are in high demand, and wages are higher than average for now.

In my career choice (broadcasting) thanks to deregulation of FCC licencing, wages are about the same as Wal-Mart. Like many other corporations, they've discovered less is more, both in numbers of people and numbers on the paycheck.

And consumer electronics have turned into throw-away items, so the neighborhood tv repairman is becoming an extinct species.

Yip...I left broadcasting about 15 years ago, when I saw the handwriting on the wall. It was a great career...and required FAR more skill than any imaginable IT job....but investors instead of radio people are running the show now.

Alas....end of a great era.

Well, things are different today in the electronics field than they were 20 years ago. Today, troubleshooting electronics usually means finding the bad board and swapping it out. Employers today hire non-skilled labor, usually young people, for this type of job.

When I was hired at my job back in 1984 you needed a minimum of a 2 year degree in electrical engineering. Not today. I have 4 guys working under me that don't even know how to use a multi-meter.

At this stage, I've been working in the industry for 23 years and I can easily be replaced by someone who can be payed 1/3 of my salary.

I'm not saying that this is the case in all aspects of this industry....but it is very common.

Good technicians are very few.

Best,
Brian
