Once again our govt. leads with its chin. And these people are supposed to be smart enough to protect us from terrorists....I wonder if the next crew will try to do the same sort of thing to Limbaugh - both he and Moore are past their prime. Sigh.

Moore is the SICKO.... he calls his junk documentary, but it is full of make believe. IF Moore was a "true believer" I am sure that Fidel would welcome him as a new Cuban citizen! Oh yeah, that's right, people are LEAVING Cuba in little boats and rafts, not going TO Cuba, obviously Moore is again bassackwards.

Hi George and all,
"BTW, what part of his documentary is "make believe"?
The part where he pretends that Cuba's "make do" health care is so great. I'll bet my friends in Havana are laughing themselves silly.
BTW, the picture of my old NC-173 makes a nice avatar. It also made a great logo on the "real radios glow in the dark" T shirt. Ah yes, Thor Heyerdahl made a great choice for the radio shack on the Kon Tiki.

Really? Please elaborate, since you appear to have first-hand knowledge about the content of the film. I haven't seen it yet myself. How did you score your early peek? I understand it was shown at Cannes, but hasn't been released here yet. Did you actually travel to Cannes? If so, how was the weather and scenery in southern France? Otherwise, please let me in on how you got your early sneak preview, so I can see it too, and also form an opinion on it.

The purpose of the film was not to bestow the virtues of the Cuban health care system or to prove it is better than the USA's health care system but rather to bestow the virtues of public health care. Like it or not a reality exists in which you do have large numbers of uninsured Americans who simply cannot affort quality health care. Many go without proper health care until whatever ails them reaches critical proportions upon which a hospital stay bankrupts them. We have excellent health care in this country provided you can afford it via insurance or personal wealth. But if you are unfortunatel enough to fall outside these 2 realms well, tough. Not to mention large scale health care providers, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical industries that are making a killing at the expense of peoples lives and health. Now of cours some will humble themselves to the point of saying, "well if I cannot afford it then I don't deserve it". make that statement when you or a loved one are uninsured and are dying from some emergency medical ailment and facing the prospect of doing nothing or racking up medical costs that will drive you into complete bankruptcy.
Contrast this with other countries who have affordable public health care.. Of course some will argue that affordable public health care means inferior health care. Well, if that it your concern you have the option to opt out of public health care and pay for your own private health care if you're well insured or if money is no object. Meanwhile the many uninsured/non wealthy types that inhabit the nation will at least be able to afford medical treatment for what ails them in some manner of dignity ? It that such a terrible thing ? Other countries do it and they haven't turned into hostile, repressive , Bolshevik regimes. Is it so terrible to provide affordable health care that won;t drive a person into bankruptcy ?
As said, the purpose of the film was not to praise Cuba as much as to demonstrate the nessesity of ffordable health care.

Medical care in this country is a big Joke!!
OH !! Maybe if you are independently wealthy you might find a doctor to take your money. But for the average and the Senior Citizen you get the shaft!!
Social Security charges you for Medicare and they assign you an HMO to take care of your needs. The HMO sucks you dry with monthly payments on top of what Soc, Sec, pays them each month. For that (if you are lucky) you get to see a doctor for 10 minutes maybe twice a year. You are told longer appointments like a 30 minute one will cost you additional /month.
You can try to use Medicare for a personal doctor instead of an HMO but NO doctors will take you as a patient. They say the pay from Medicare is too little and the paper work too much to bother.
So if you get some malady that you cannot treat your self you are just SOL.

It's true...medical care in the U.S. is dicey, at best. #Even if you've got medical coverage...it's extremely difficult to get good health coverage.
Why is this? #We all know the answer to that.
(hint...hint...ronnie had lots to do with this)
We HAVE to reform this...and MM is doing a good job point out how awful our health system is.
The medical industry is macro-regulated and micro-regulated in the Land of the uh, Free, with mountains of rules. More than half of our national health care budget is government money. The solution offered, is more government. That's just swell, but liberty would have been the better route. Now I fear, it is much to late to turn around. Bureaucracy is the future.

Hi Warren, I have had my 173 for a long time and I love it. It can't compare to my NC303, or HQ180 when copying SSB or CW , but does a great job on AM. A few years back the power transformer went up in smoke and I replaced it with a Dahl unit. While I had it apart I re capped it, #which made a major improvement in it's performance.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. The purpose of the film is to make MM richer, there is no other purpose. He knows a money maker when he sees it after his last "Documentary". It's simple economics. While you guys here argue the "Virtues" of the film, Moore goes to the bank and we sit in front of our computers arguing about it.

Leaving the dapper Mr. Moore and his pandering aside, the issue IS health care.
IZE, I agree with 2I on this. #It's government regulation (read: overzealous regulation) coupled with a legitimate and pervasive fear of lawsuits that has done in our health care system. #More of the same is hardly the answer. #I was going to bring up the old liberal maxim that if what we tried so far didn't work, we just need to do more of it. #But I won't...
I work in or at least next to a part of the health care system and you cannot believe some of the stuff that goes on because it has to go on. #I am not free to go into detail here but it is utterly mind-boggling. #Let me just say this: when any industry that has a hard-to-quantify-and measure product, like health care, is regulated by the state, in short order the PRODUCT is not the focus of the activity it is the REGULATIONS that are the focus. #If the regulations are PERFECT and #actually represent legitimate measures of success and do not cost more than the success is worth (you have to watch that one!) and do not THEMSELVES prohibit success, then maybe that wouldn't be so bad. #But when have you ever seen such regulations???
I don't have a solution to the US's health care troubles here on Wednesday morning and ready to jot down, but socialized medicine ain't it!

In answer to the smart alecks that wanted to know how I knew Moore's film was make believe and not a documentary (no I did not go to Cannes to see it): By knowing what has gone before and how fat Mikey does things, I deduced that his latest liberal garbage would be more of the same. Most reasonable intelligent folks would probably also deduce that. hmmm
As far as government run health care, we do that, then we need to get those poor people housing, so we move the ones that have only two people in a four bedroom house out to a smaller one (government housing), then we give the laborers/unskilled workers raises and the higher managment pay cuts to make them more "equal" etc etc...oh yes that has been tried.;. it is called socialism/communism... worked great for Russia etal, didn't it? We may as well copy it.... BUT, what if you like it so well, why don't you liberals just go ahead and move to one of these great countries with the government ran benefits you so desire, and let us capitalists stay here, work hard so we can afford our expensive health care, (that is so good that folks from the socialized medicine countries come here for serious health care)...
Yes, I would like to know also, if the wonderful Cuban health system has cured all those heros of 9/11...

What are you talking about ? You're making ridiculous strawmen. If we do this then we have to do that. many of the people who would benefit from public health care already own homes, work for a living, pay taxes. The only thing public health care would do is help keep them from going bankrupt and loosing their home, etc... due to high medical cost if they are not wealthy or uninsured. Did you ever get very sick and require a long hospital stay with no insurance ?? Do you know how much medical costs can run ?

Keep drinking the Rushbo Kool Aid. Those from socialized medical countries come here if that can AFFORD it. And many people in nations throughout the world that have public health care do receive excellent health care. You talk about working hard and affording your health care which is the exact issue. Many people are hard working and they discover that they cannot afford the health care.
Besides, nobody would be forcing you to use public health care. You can direct pay a hospital for private care.

Unfortunately no regulation is not an answer. The failures of no regulation are in part the reason why we have regulation.
Michael is an All American Hero. Lost in all the Moore Bashing is the real reason this was filmed:
Quote[/b] ]"Lost in all the publicity over Moore’s trip is the reason he went to Cuba in the first place.
"He says he hadn’t intended to go, but then discovered the U.S. government was boasting of the excellent medical care it provides terror suspects detained at Guantanamo. So Moore decided that the 9/11 workers and a few other patients, all of whom had serious trouble paying for care at home, should have the same chance.
"’Here the detainees were getting colonoscopies and nutrition counseling,’ Moore told The Associated Press in an interview, ‘and these people at home were suffering. I said, "We gotta go and see if we can get these people the same treatment the government gives al-Qaida." It seemed the only fair thing to do.’"
