some other gems..
Fact.. The reason for militant Islam is the existance of Israel and US foreign policy.
Fact.. The Clinton/s are the masters of the lie, deception, and anything one thinks he/she can pull off without getting caught, or at least having a good chance to wiggle out of. Any wonder they're both lawyers?
How many of you Americans are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Arab Israeli 6 day war?
It would be a disaster for the Canadian economy if it is!
Be fine with me. I hope it gets to $1.67 to C1.00. Then we could always do what they did when I was there and it was C1.67 to $1.00. Charge them a Canadian buck for things that cost a dollar and watch their faces when they lose C.67 on the dollar. Mounts up when you start getting up to $2,000 or $3,000. Oh and don't forget to call the cops (who don't do anything) when they complain.

I don't know where you were, but all the businesses around where I used to live always accepted US dollar at the current exchange rate plus a small comission, but never at 1:1 That's abusive.
But now at .94, it's getting close to pair.
In my case, my problem is that the local economy and currency follows the US$ closely, but most of my importation is made from Europe and I have to pay in Euros.
It's just killing me. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

The Bank of Canada is predicting a slow but continual rise in the Canuck buck and sees it at par with the US dollar by years end.Great for me and my vacation plans this summer! Bad for the economy as a whole however.

Would the world come to an end if both our currencies were equal and stayed that way?
It would for those that take advantage of that flaw in the system. Otherwise not.

Right now it would really hurt us here if the dollars were equal and tied together. The strength of the Canadian dollar is not so much a rise against the US dollar as it is a weakening of the US dollar against other currencies while our dollar remains strong. If the Canadian dollar were to be tied to the US dollar right now it would mean our dollar would be losing ground against the Euro etc and that would make things even worse then they are now. That's the big problem if we ever had a common currency.

How prevalent are goods made in China there in Canada? Seems almost everything here is made in China now.

How is it a disaster? Canada is a nation with a lot of natural resource wealth and only 250 million people. I think they're pretty much self-sufficient and can export resources to any nation that wants to pay their rate.
If you want a disaster, just wait until oil is traded in euros, or something other than the dollar. Then you get to deal with not only commodity traders affecting the price of oil, you get to deal with currency speculators affecting the value of the currencies.
Yum!

At times I swear we must be the leading importer of Chinese goods. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif It's getting harder to find quality products nowadays.they are out there but you have to look for them and be prepared to pay the price. i imagine things are pretty much the same there.

First we have only 31 million people and second we have a large manufacturing industry that will be hard pressed to find markets for it's products when you Americans decide that the price is too high to pay because of the weak US dollar. The key thing you said was "....and can export resources to any nation that wants to pay their rate." Would you pay more for foreign made goods or pay less for domestic goods? See where I am coming from?

I like this one...if the dollar keeps falling we'll be able to put the Chinese out of business.
All fiat currency is continually destroyed. Despotic rulers generally destroy the currency at a faster pace than statesman-like leaders. I despised him at the time, but in comparison to Bush, Clinton was a statesman.

All of them were, at their time, as legitimate as any other border enforced by any other country.
How legitimate is the border between Bangledesh and India? India and Pakistan? Syria and Lebanon? Iraq and Kuwait? USA and Canada? Mexico and USA? Scotland and England? Germany and France? Poland and Germany? Don't the Moors have a claim on Spain? What about Japan and Russia on the Sakhalin Island?

Canada has nowhere near 250 million people. You seem to forget that most of Canada is frozen tundra.
Furthermore, Canada is our largest trading partner, or at least pretty close to China. Their exports of natural resources and manufactured goods and our importation of them work because the Canadian dollar was valued less than the US dollar, hence we were paying less for Canadian goods.
If the currencies go even, Canada stands to lose a large portion of the US market, because it will be less attractive to import from Canada and more attractive to produce here.

That was in Montreal in '87. That's why I never go back to my families Canadian roots in Quebec and the Maritimes anymore.
As far as Euros, that's a really bad exchange rate. It was E1.00 - $1.20 the last time I had to do business with a EC country (paddle finger pieces - never weightlift and then practice code) and that was horrendous enough. Shipping was actually reasonable in comparison.
Good luck with dealing with the EC. The UK is not as bad from my experience unless you look at their postage rates.

I thought it meant the Conch (http://www.conchrepublic.com/history.htm) dollar, which is surely higher than the US dollar. Just see how many US dollars you have to spend when you get there!
