Russia to bomb other European countries (http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/06/04/europe/putin.php)

Quote[/b] ]Putin has warned that Moscow would be forced to find missile targets of its own in Europe if the United States built its missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Quote[/b] ]Bush's message in advance of the trip has been to calm down, reminding Russia that "the Cold War is over." As if to drive home that point, Bush was bookending his summit stay with calls on the Czech Republic and Poland, former Soviet satellites where he wants to base major parts of the new defense shield.

Don't start on your fallout shelter just yet. #

I bet every defense contractor, who, when Regan got all the agreements signed and stopped the cold war were doomed, are now rejoycing once again.

If they survived.

They might be regretting surplussing out some of those silos though http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hello.

Not that long ago I replaced shelves in the old fallout shelter, wooden ones replaced with metal.
I was able to get the old hand air pump working again by replacing the bearings in the gearbox.
There is now a small AC system in place.
The original electrical system was 6 volts battery or 110 VDC, with a tabletop transistor AM radio for news.
I have since revamped that, with a hand generator powered radio that can also charge the 2 large capacity 12 volt batteries.
The WWII era gasoline generator still works fine, a 1941 4 piston job that has had the starter replaced and a spare.
Both the original generator (6 volts) and a 200 amp 12/24 volt big truck alternator are in place along with a 110VDC generator.
There is now a "transfer switch" in place, 2 diodes that take 220VAC and put out 110VDC, (170VDC no load).
I did not do this for a fallout shelter, but that is what it was built for over 40 years ago.
No, this is my ham shack.
For some odd reason nobody ran power to the thing.
Both a sewer connection as well as water are in place.
220 AC 20 amp service works great.
Everything can be powered off the generator but the AC compressor, so I bolted on an automotive unit.
There must be tens of thousands of these things still around.
Unless you know what to look for you will never find the entrance.
Fear that the neighbors would try to force themselves in was the motivation to hide this type of thing.

Um...people...ronnie didn't end the cold war and doesn't deserve any credit at all for that. #The cold war ended because the Soviet collapsed when it ran out of money. #And, by the way, that regime ended practically bloodlessly. Puh LEEZE...learn the facts. #ronnie had nothing to do with that.

Where do get the idea that anyone who knows real history would get that idea? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I liked Ronnie, but I know he didn't end the cold war.

And the subtitle of the topic mentioned ronnie's legacy.

Must be horrible to contract Bush Derangement Syndrome before you have been completely cured of your Reagan Derangement Syndrome. #Maybe a dual drug could be developed.

Well, I know it will never happen, but I hope someday there is a world where the people just refuse to play war.

No matter how many boogymen the leaders invent, the people will just say "no".

Chimpanzees make war, too - very much the same way humans do. Chimpanzees on patrol look just like a human military patrol, except that their weapons consist of sticks and rocks. Their behavior is amazingly similar to that of humans. When a patrol finds an enemy force that they outnumber by a ratio of 3 to 1, they attack. If they find a superior enemy force, they retreat and hope they aren't detected.

So, we talk about the nobility of war, but in fact, it's as much an animal act as anything we do.

(Shhhhh. Don't let the neocon's know the truth. This will drive them crazy. Do they accept that Ronnie had nothing to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union and ending the Cold War, or did he try, and this being his only accomplishment, failed? A sad sad legacy for the Goober, or Gopper, or whatever.)

Hello.

Russia fell due to the fact that their business model needed expansion.
Russia tried to take over Afghanistan, like that was going to happen.
The US, after the invasion of Afghanistan, all but gave up.
The people there have been fighting for hundreds of years, it is a form of entertainment for them.
US troops against people who think that the fastest way to heaven is to die in battle, provided that they kill as large a number of enemy as can be?
Remember, suicide is not an option, and not killing the enemy is suicide.
Russian, US, whatever, it is not going to happen.

I'll bet the Russian Mafia controls the defense contractors over there, so they need more work. Hopefully they will be as inept and crooked as many of the ones here. The other day I found them selling diodes to the government for $1300 a piece. (No, not the place I work at.) Those diodes probably go for $13,000 in Russia.

No need to start on a fallout shelter. I work in one already. The area I work in is in a part of the buildings basement that was designated as the buildings fallout shelter back in the 50's. We even have some of the old cans of biscuits and drums of drinking water. Unfortunately no giegers or dosimeters. There are a few other 1950's CD kits further back in some of the old storage areas. And plenty of those yellow and black signs.

Just in case anyone thinks the Bear ain't got teeth.
Just do a little research and see how much money the US government has given them since the "Wall" came down, if you don't know, you're going to be pissed.

"Habiger continued, noting that "Russia is the only power with the capacity to destroy the United States. ‘The anomaly that we’re faced with is that the Cold War ended, and did the loser really lose?’ he said. ‘Did you see a demobilization? Did you see all those nuclear weapons come down in Russia? No.’”

Saddam is doing a pretty good job too. And he's a dead leader.

Oh yeah. Look at the stalwart leadership of the United States now! Playing the hand Saddam wanted him to play.
