COOL, Thanks for sharing.
It even shows my original callsign but it only goes back to 1981 and doesn't show my year of original license.
Definately an awesome site though.

Kind of neat but not very accurate.
Look at your own neighborhood and see how many of the pins are for active hams.

Wow...I've been on Michael's site a lot, and never found

Thanks for sharing.

Two things -
- You can select cached data (old) or latest available (slow).
- It is accurate in terms of licensees. As far as active hams go, no database is going to give you that.

Hey! This is great! I often go to strange places on vacation, and found another ham in my very own original hometown out in Iowa! (population about 500!) Til now, only knew of two hams in the whole county!

My zip code ( 35650 ) shows 30 licensed amateurs.
3/4 of these folks I aint never heard .
Our local club ONLY has 26 members, not many are these folks.
Oh, I dont live where the indicator points to as my home location.
The system is only as accurate as the information provided for it to use as a reference . No system is 100% accurate, and even if it was for one day, folks move and change call signs, etc all the time, so it would be very, very hard to be 50% accurate for any one zip code. He did the best he could with the information he was provided with....and he should be proud.

Google Earth, Mapquest, et al do not have individual house number data. They will use the first and last numbers on a street or some other available data and extrapolate. On my street, the numbers go up by two but they start at 10 and the last two houses are 30 & 36 respectively. If I look for my house, it shows up about 4 houses down the block. I guess this is good protection from my enemies when they set the GPS units in their smart bombs.

It's no substitute for the FCC ULS database, this town is RF City small as it is.

How did you make it work for Canadian postal codes ? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

That was kind of neat. I never realized how many were within a mile or less of the house. Never knew the guy that rents a basement apt. across the street is licensed.
Also never realized that I my kid (who is licensed) lives down the street. Always seemed to me she lives in the same house. Before we get into all the reasons the map can be a little off let me say, I understand. I was making a funny. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Much coolness. #So that beam [I know it's being used, because I've seen it pointing in various directions] and all those wires just up the road from me belong to WO6M... #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif #I've been wondering about that. #And it looks like there's a whole fam hamily just up the block from me, too - KA6ONC, KA6JPI, and KG6TRQ.
However, that antenna farm up by El Monte Ave. and Naomi [?] doesn't have an indicator on the map at all. #SK or an expired call, possibly, and nobody bothered to take the towers down...?
Looks like W6JET [haven't heard him in a while] has a kid, and the kid has a call - KF6JET. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

in my neighborhood there are 107 hams. no obvious hams on my block, but a handful within a few blocks' radius. the map doesn't show me because my address of record (as far as the FCC is concerned) is in another zip code.
WOW, I am the only (and I am not in the boondocks) licensed Amateur in my zip code!
"Oh, who are the Hamsters in your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?
Say, who are the Hamsters in your neighborhood?
The Hamsters that you talk to each day..."
Thanks for the link. The information is pretty accurate here.

Possible that he uses a PO Box and not a street address for his license. Mine is not where I live at because I have a PO Box listed as my FCC address and not a street address.

I just did the town where I obtained this callsign in 1968. There are now 14 amateurs for a town of less than 2000 population. At least one was probably there when I was but I did not know about him. The total area covered is only a few square miles.
There are 100 in my current zipcode including one who lives behind me that I never knew about.

American Amateur radio licenses last for 10 years, somebody may get a technician license and then abandon the hobby, the license is still active for 10 years and will appear in the map. There's no way to find out who's been behind a mike in the last year.
Actually back in Oz there is, Amateur radio licenses there cost $50 a year, you don't get a license to get one, you get it to use and if you lose interest in the hobby your license expires in a year. This gives Australia the most accurate list of active hams, now if someone would tie ACMA license data to mapit maps...

Actually, no, that's not it at all. #The correct answer hit me like a brick upside the head this morning while I was on my way to slumberland.
It's because that location IS IN A DIFFERENT CITY AND ZIP CODE! #I officially feel like an idiot. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Now, let's see... #I believe that area might be ZIP code 91006...?
Edit: Yep, that's it. And here he is: WA6ACS.

Thank you. This is a great link. I passed it on to a friend who lives in a area where they can`t have antennas. We were supprised how many Hams live in his area. Maybe they can contact each other now and fight the antenna restrictions.
