A big sunspot is emerging over the sun's eastern limb, posing a threat for significant solar activity. Already it has unleashed several M-class solar flares. One of the eruptions, an M3-flare on June 1st, caused a shortwave radio fadeout over Europe. Amateur astronomers with solar telescopes should keep an eye on this photogenic sunspot, while shortwave radio listeners should be alert for flare-triggered fadeouts and other propagation effects. I was going to ask a question, but never mind.
Ok, ok...according to the estimates of the speed of the flare, and the rotation of the earth...what part of the planet will be facing the sun when the flare gets the closest to the earth ? USA / EUROPE / AFRICA / ASIA ?

I don't think you can predict with any certainty those types of things.. but we have a strong M class flare at the moment.. darn near X class...... plus it looks like a gravy train of sunspots coming across the suns southern hemisphere....
Propagation on 20 was awesome tonight.. was hearing Europe until almost 0200Z...
Stay informed....

ai4ep where it will hit is not important, what's important is that it's on the way.

When we have a sun spot alert does that mean people will climb up to their roof tops and howl???

Well, all I can tell you is the higher frequency bands have been wide open but the trouble as usual is the lights are on but nobody's home. Well, a few are anyway, I saw some PSK on 15M today, surprise surprise surprise.
"When we have a sun spot alert does that mean people will climb up to their roof tops and howl???"
No, you're thinking of moonspots. Last month there was a blue moon, double your pleasure double your fur, er, fun. You should have heard them howling around here, or maybe it was the coyotes.
