I'm taking part of the day Saturday off from house chores to play in the Alabama QSO Party from the new QTH in Fayette County.
It starts at 1600 UTC Saturday and ends 0400 UTC Sunday (just 12 hrs). This will be my first AL QSO Party to participate in, and the first time I sit and call CQ TEST as opposed to the usual hunt and pounce. All CW, so please be gentle :-)
Exchange is call sign, signal report, and county abbreviation or state / country if outside of AL.
See the website (http://www.alabamaqsoparty.org/.) for more information and check out the awards and plaques they are offering this year.
So, anyone else here planning on playing?
If you hear a slow op, that'll be me!
73,
Melinda / KI4CIA
I'll try to make a few QSOs, unfortunately I got work...

Hey Melinda, hope all is well. Thank goodness you got out of Tuscaloosa #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif #(War Eagle). I plan on being there, but on phone. Good Luck. Maybe our signals will cross paths.

BH - I agree. I do NOT miss Tuscaloosa; though, unfortunately, I get to see it two days a week when I go to work. I like shopping in Fayette much better.
EP - LOL, nothing like a bunch of rednecks getting together, huh?
RJ - well, you're one person outside of AL who I know is going to make an attempt to get a few contacts.
Hope to hear all of you, I may end up on SSB if there are not contacts being made on CW.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ...at least we do not see AUBURN forking over $40 million for a new football coach.
The one we have has beaten the CRIMSON TIDE the last 5 times those two teams have played, so why stop a great thing ?
If AUBURN beats ALABAMA in football this fall, does that mean that ALABAMA will be looking for another coach ?
Ya know, AUBURN might just HAVE to " lose " this one this coming fall, after all 5 in a row IS a great record to have from a " cow college " .

I made a few on 20SSB, which seems to be pretty dry. I'm gonna try CW.

I've made 30 on 40 CW so far - it comes and goes. Get lots of activity, it drops off for a bit, then picks back up again.
Good Luck!

Alabama QSO Party seems like a BUST so far.
The bands here are poor to say the least. The solar conditions are terrible today. Only managed 15 Q's so far on phone with less than 4 hours to go.
Hoping to find some activity on 80.

I worked a couple on phone, field day portable style from my screen tent. I went and grabbed the key to move down the band and do a bit of the SKCC sprint, and that's when I seen the lightning hit the WKBT transmitter tower. I pulled the plug. Now is a good time to surf the net via the laptop.

Tom, pulling the plug sounds like a good idea too! Wow!
Well, I ended up with a total of 62 Q's, which is a personal record!! Spent 5 hrs in the contest, all on 40 CW.
Had a nice run of mid-west states about 0300 UTC, signals were much better tonight than they were this morning!
Thanks to all of you who came out and participated (even if just for a little while).

Didn't seem like there was much participation, but I guess that's the way it goes. Possibly, I am spoiled by the popularity of the Pennsylvania, and a few other states QSO Parties.
28 whole Q's and 20 counties.
80 activity last night was virtually non-existant.
I heard a VETERAN contester with a huge contest station I know of make a comment that he had less than 200 Q's, that alone tells me that activity was low.

I heard a few ops on 40 and 20 but i didnt get to make any exchanges. Most of them only wanted Alabama contacts.
